Petition to Have Quentin Tarantino Direct ‘Deadpool 2’ Goes Viral

Date:

Tim Miller’s exit from Deadpool 2 has caused thousands of fans to sign an online petition calling for Quentin Tarantino to direct the sequel.

Nearly 3,000 people have signed the petition, which reads “If there was ever a chance to see Tarantino do a project almost guaranteed to make a billion dollars, this is it. We got a great taste of what this could be like in ‘Kill Bill,’ but imagine having a guy like Tarantino write dialogue for The Merc with the Mouth! It would be so glorious. Join me!”

Carl Champion Jr. started the petition, who further explained that

“if Reynolds and Tarantino sat down and discussed their ideas for this sequel, they would love what each other had to say.”

Champion explained that Tarantino tends to make longer movies and blend genres, which may get in the way of the filmmaking style that made Deadpool so successful. However, Champion continues on by saying Quentin Tarantino is exactly what we need for the next Deadpool movie, saying, “the best superhero movies we’ve seen recently have blended genres beautifully, and in many ways it is exactly what made them so great. Think of ‘The Dark Knight,’ a crime drama dressed as a superhero movie. Think of ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ a spy-thriller dressed as a superhero movie, and just to cite one more example look at what Marvel is doing on Netflix. ‘Jessica Jones’ is basically a noir movie and ‘Luke Cage’ is a blaxploitation movie, both wildly popular.”

In case you have not heard the bad news, Miller left the Fox sequel last week over “creative differences” with the movie’s leading actor Ryan Reynolds. According to report, Reynolds and Miller had a “contentious relationship” for a long time. The two were reportedly not speaking to each for long periods of time since the first Deadpool movie.

At the end of the day Deadpool is a hit. The movie opened number one on Valentine’s Day weekend, earning $132 million from U.S. theaters. So far the movie has earned $782 million worldwide.
