North Carolina Film Crews Are Running to Georgia

Date:

North Carolina’s dying film industry has forced crew workers to run to Georgia for a job.

Ever since North Carolina changed their tax credit program, their film industry has been hanging on by a very thin thread.

Several TV shows with long-standing relationships with North Carolina have decided to take their business elsewhere. For instance, Fox’s ‘Sleepy Hollow’ picked up their bags and is currently filming in Atlanta, Georgia. Ultimately, this leaves hundreds of people, who depended on North Carolina’s tax credit, without a job.

So, what are crew members, aspiring actors, and talent agents doing? Moving to the ATL.

According to Biz Journals, a large majority of crew members are moving to the peach state due to the large amount of jobs.

“There has been a mass exodus of our crew [base],” Rebecca Clark, executive director of North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad Film Commission, told Greensboro, N.C.’s News & Record. “They’re all going to Atlanta. Atlanta’s getting their taxes. Atlanta’s getting their income. Atlanta’s booming, and they are ecstatic we cut the film incentive.”

North Carolina used to offer a tax credit program that would offer 25% credit to productions, and last year North Carolina gave $300 million dollars to TV show and movie producers to produce productions in North Carolina.
