Ian Somerhalder: ‘The Vampire Diaries’ to End With Season 8

Date:

The Vampire Diaries may be coming to an end after season 8.

It looks as though one of Georgia’s biggest TV productions is coming to an end. The Vampire Diaries films nearly 10 months a year and hires thousands upon thousands of actors, extras, and crew workers. But, according to the show’s leading actor, Ian Somerhalder, season 8 will be The Vampire Diaries final season.

However, there are no official reports from The CW suggesting that the show will get cancelled, as of yet. But, this news comes as the show was renewed for an eighth season just a few weeks ago. But, The Hollywood Reporter suggests that “The season eight renewal was said to hinge on star Somerhalder inking a new deal to return to the series.”

Recently, The Vampire Diaries and the show’s spinoff The Originals have suffered bad ratings, which prompted network executives to move the TV show to Fridays. And while the vampire dramas were once the most popular show on the The CW, the show has had trouble connecting with audiences over time. In addition, DC Comics TV shows including The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow have become the network’s top priority over the last few months.

We have a lot of actors that love remaining with the show, and we have writers who are thrilled to remain with the show, and crew who would love to keep going. As long as people keep watching, we’ll try to keep making it until we run out of ideas.
