HBO Cancels ‘Girls’ After Six Seasons

Date:

HBO has just announced their plans to end Girls after season 6.

According to reports, the end of Girls is in sight. Lena Dunham and Judd Apatow’s comedy will end their run after season six.

This news comes after Lena Dunham has just finished filming her fifth season and commented on the future of Girls. “I think America has a tendency to push shows past their due dates,” Dunham said early last year. “I like the British model – in and out.”

Dunham also explained that she thought about the series finale a long time ago.  “We spent a lot of time talking about where these girls will end up. We definitely have a distinct idea of where we want to see them. I even sometimes focus on this final image that I see, but between now and then, anything can happen.”

The show premiered in 2012 and launched the career of Lena Dunham into super-stardom, becoming known as the talented creator, actor, and writer of her generation. Though Girls hasn’t had very many viewers, the show has brought attention to HBO whose goal is to bring subscribers and not viewers.

In 2012, Girls was nominated for several Emmys. In fact, the series won for best comedy and actress Lena Dunham won a Golden Globe in 2013, since then Adam Driver and Lena Dunham have been nominated for several awards.

But, what will happen to Lena Dunham? Well, according to Variety, Dunham could still work with BO, as she has a new TV pilot in development. The TV pilot, which filmed in NYC late last year, will be directed by Dunham and executive produced by the team behind Girls. Max, is a single camera series that centers around the struggles of women in the second wave feminism focusing particularly on Maxine Woodroof, an ambitious writer played by Lisa Joyce. According to Deadline, “Maxine is an enthusiastic, if misguided, low-level magazine employee who stumbles into the forefront of a civil rights movement both she and the world may not be ready for.”
