Georgia’s Film Industry Creates Over 24,000 Jobs

Georgia‘s film industry creates 24,000 jobs, 1.68 billion in wages and 9,291 production related jobs.

The film and television industry is a unique industry that makes people’s dreams come true while transforming communities. One particular city that has transformed due to the film industry is Atlanta.

According to a new report by the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), Georgia’s film industry has continue to grow providing over 24,000 jobs, 1.68 billion dollars in wages and 9,291 production related jobs. Between 2013 to 2014 Movies and TV shows filmed in Georgia include:

  3. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay (Parts 1 & 2)
  4. Million Dollar Arm
  5. Need for Speed
  6. The Spongebob Movie: Sponge out of Water 
  7. Transformers: Age of Extinction
  8. The Vampire Diaries
  9. The Walking Dead
  10. The Following
  11. Revolutions
  12. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo
  13. The Boondocks
  14. The Venture Bros.
  15. Family Feud
  16. Selma
  17. Taken 3
  18. Insurgent
  19. Vacation
  20. Ride Along 2,
  21. Goosebumps
  22. Magic Mike XXL 
  23. Ant-Man
  24. The Vampire Diaries
  25. The Walking Dead
  26. Archer

As MPAA pointed out the 2008 Georgia Entertainment Industry Investment Act grants to qualified productions a transferable income tax credit of 20% of all in-state costs for film and television investments of $500,000 or more. An additional 10% tax credit is awarded to approved projects that embed a Georgia Entertainment Promotional logo within the titles or credits of each production.

California’s film industry still reigns supreme with over 188,000 jobs provided 18.1 billion dollars in wages, and 132,000 production related jobs. However, the number of TV shows and movies are slowly declining in California. In 2013, there were 318 movies and 347 TV shows in California but, in 2014 there were only 269 movies and 302 TV shows.
