TNT cancels Franklin & Bash after four seasons. The buddy legal drama has finally hit the end of the road. TNT has pulled the plug on Franklin & Bash after several years of bad ratings.
TNT has opted not to order a fifth season of the legal buddy dramedy Franklin & Bash starring Breckin Meyer and Mark-Paul Gosselaar. This happens to be the first major programming decision since Turner Broadcasting last week brought in Kevin Reilly to oversee TNT and TBS. Franklin & Bash got off to a solid start in 2011 but has been slipping in the past couple of years. Its most recent fourth season started with 1.25 million viewers, down -60% from the Season 3 opener. The season and now series finale drew 975,000 viewers. [Deadline]
TNT is currently changing their future line up and getting rid of shows that were no longer successful. According to Turner Broadcasting President David Levy, “It’s an evolution, a bridge-type process that will take place as opposed to a turnaround. You are going to see shows like Legends and Public Morals that are going to bring us on a path to a more edgier type of shows; this is a path we are taking.”
Franklin & Bosh centered around Lawyers and lifelong friends Jared Franklin and Peter Bash are recruited by a large firm’s major partner after winning a high-profile case.
The pilot was filmed in Atlanta in late March and early April. In May 2010, the show was moved from TBS to sister station TNT, where network executives believed it was a better fit. The network green-lit production in mid-May with a ten episode order, with production moving to Los Angeles.
The show was never really popular with critics. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the show holds a 41% rating with people calling it “Slick, playful, and occasionally witty, Franklin & Bash unfortunately sticks too close to the courtroom drama formula”.
