‘Ferris Bueller’s Famouse House Sells for $1.06 Million

Date:

Ferris Buellers’ famous Highland Park, Illinois home sells for 1.06 million dollars.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off  home has sold after five years being on the market for $1.06 M. The home was designed in 1953  by A. James Speyer, a modernist architectural designer.

Originally designed in 1953 by A. James Speyer, a follower of the great modernist Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the four-bedroom main house was joined in 1974 by the famous glassy pavilion, designed by David Haid to showcase the original owner’s car collection—it accommodates parking for four cars, plus an extra kitchen and bathroom.[Curbed]

If you can recall in the movie, this is where Cameron Frye totaled his dad’s Ferrari.

The home first hit the market in 2009 and was listed at $1.65 M in early 2011. After the property had no takers, brokers tried adding new decoration and other new amenities. Unfortunately, that did not work out for the brokers either. The house was then placed on the market for $1.5 M in August 2013, and then the price dropped again to $1.295M around Thanksgiving.

Wonder why the home was so hard to sell? The home was designed as two separate buildings and people could not see the practical use of having one building serve as a home and another building serving as a smaller office.
