Disney “Star Wars” Theme Park Coming Soon

Date:

Disney is developing a “Star Wars” theme park.

Before “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” hits theaters, Disney is already planning a “Star Wars” theme park.

According to Variety, Disney cheif Bob Iger told Wall Street analysts that there’s “a fair amount of design and development (taking place by the company’s Imagineers) to greatly increase “Star Wars” presence in multiple locations around the world.” Iger continued “The plans are ambitious so it’s going to take some time for them to be built and opened.”

Specific plans are scheduled to be announced “later in 2015”, and Disney already has plans on expanding George Lucas’ sci-fi genre for which it paid $4 billion in 2012. Disney is currently looking at several spinoffs based on the Star Wars franchise.

In a separate interview with Bloomberg Television, Iger said, “Fairly soon, I’m sure we’ll be ready to go public with some specifics. But it’s safe to say that you’ll see a lot more ‘Star Wars’ at Disney and at Disney parks in the near future.”

Whatever Disney plans on doing to the franchise, they are making sure it is a secret. Recently, a crew member or background extra posted pictures of a secret character on the upcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and Disney plans on suing the individual for over $120,000.

But at the end of the day $120,000 is only chump change to the Disney corporation and the leaked images will not have an effect on box-office sales. Since the teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams’ ‘The Force Awakens’ has been veiwed more than 123 million times.

Disney XD has already launched the animated series “Star Wars Rebels” and Disney plans on releasing several action figures in the next few months to promote “The Force Awakens” feature film.

Outside of Star Wars, Disney is already building an “Avatar” themed amusement park inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom park in Orlando. The Avatar theme park will open in 2017.
