UPDATE: Several Dallas Police Officers Killed During Black Lives Matter Protest

Dallas Police Shooting – Dallas Police Chief reports 3 officers killed by at least two snipers.

Three police officers are dead, and at least seven others are injured in downtown Dallas Thursday, Dallas Police Chief David Brown says.

The entire statement follows:

“Tonight it appears that two snipers shot ten police officers from elevated positions during the protest/rally. Three officers are deceased, two are in surgery and three are in critical condition. An intensive search for suspects is currently underway. No suspects are in custody at this time. We ask that any citizen with information regarding the shootings tonight call 214-671-3482.”

“We will provide more information once it is available. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers tonight.”

Dallas Shooting

According to reports, DART says one of its officers has been killed, and three others have non-life threatening injuries. The gunshots rang out about 9 p.m. following a protest and rally following the death of Alton Sterling and Philandro Castile. The shootings took place as the rally and march were coming to an end.

Several police officers arrived downtown following the shooting, which took place near Main and Market streets and a black from the Old Red Courthouse building.

Update:

According a recent interview with NBC DFW, the suspect’s brother argues that he was not involved in the shooting and gave up his weapon to police right after the shooting.

Update: The Dallas Police Department reports that a fourth police officer has died.

Update: Dallas police report that the person of interest whose picture has been circulated just turned himself in. Dallas Police Department also report, “another alleged suspect was in a shootout with Dallas SWAT officers.” In addition, a suspicious package was discovered near this suspect’s location. The package is being secured by DPD bomb squad.”
