Atlanta Launches Paid Movie Industry Job Training Program

City of Atlanta Entertainment Program- Atlanta launches a new paid film job training program

Georgia has one of the biggest film industries in the world. With states like Los Angeles and New York competing with Georgia, the Peach State is quickly becoming the new Hollywood. To handle all of these new movies and TV shows now filming in Atlanta, Georgia, Atlanta’s mayor, Kasim Reed and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local (IATSE) 479 are launching a City of Atlanta Entertainment Program.

The program is the first job training program in the United States that will focus on building the film industry and increase the number of trained crew members in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to bizjournals.com, City of Atlanta Entertainment Program will train men and women “below-the-line” job skills such as the skills necessary to work in animation, cinematography, editing, makeup, post production, and visual effects.

“I am proud to support the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency and the Office of Entertainment’s efforts to facilitate employment opportunities for Atlanta residents in the film and television production industry,” said Mayor Reed. “Providing a trained below-the-line workforce is critical to the film industry’s growth in Atlanta and Georgia. This program will ensure that our residents and young people have access to learn from world-class professionals and acquire vital skills.”

What is the City of Atlanta Entertainment Program?

In addition, the IATSE will be working with Mayor Kasim Reed, the City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency to provide job training in the Motion Picture industry in Georgia.

The new program will be free for all production companies in Atlanta, Georgia and qualified applicants will be able to apply for positions as trainees in motion picture and television productions in Atlanta. In addition the Atlanta Workforce Development Aggency will pay the trainees’ wages for the length of the program, which is up to 17 weeks. Once the trainees are accepted into the program, IATSE Local 479 will introduce trainees into the film industry with an intensive two-day workshop and will work with producers to put the trainees on set.

How to apply to the City of Atlanta Entertainment Program

Admissions into the program is on a rolling basis. Atlanta residents who are interested in joining the Atlanta Entertainment Program must have a valid Georgia Driver’s License and must register with AWDA and go through the intake process.
