Thousands Boycott ABC Until Jesse Williams is Fired

Date:

Thousands plan to boycott ABC until Jesse Williams is fired from Grey’s Anatomy.

The controversy surrounding Jesse Williams’ Black Lives Matter speech is reaching a serious tipping point.

Recently, a petition, which was created by someone named Eric Williams and now has over 15,000 supporters calls for Jesse Williams to get fired from ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy calling the actor “racist”.

If this was a white person making the same speech about an African American, they would have been fired and globally chastised, as they should be, but there has been no consequences to Williams’ actions.”

After news of a petition to fire Jesse Williams from Grey’s Anatomy went viral, many people took to Twitter to bash Jesse Williams and boycott the upcoming season of the hit Shonda Rhimes medical drama. But, the petition is expanding and thousands are calling for a boycott of not only Grey’s Anatomy but, also every show on ABC.

From Change.org (emphasis my own)

Unfortunately, a necessary escalation is warranted. Please sign the petition to fire Jesse Williams from Grey’s Anatomy AND boycott the entire ABC Network. Don’t forget to unlike all ABC programs/shows on Facebook pages, unfollow all on Twitter and separate from all social media that has anything to do with ABC, their shows, news, etc.

This news comes after several people called for a boycott of black actors until Jesse Williams is fired. At the time of writing this article, the petition is only 7,000 people away from reaching it’s goal of 25,000 people.

However, it’s important to point out that even if 25,000 people actually do sign the petition, Jesse Williams is probably not going anywhere. Recently, Shonda Rhimes praised his words on Twitter: “In woods. Far from wifi. Get signal! What’d I miss? ‘Just because we’re magic doesn’t mean we’re not real,’” she wrote, referencing a line in Williams’ speech. “YES.”

Even though Shonda Rhimes supports Jesse Williams, will ABC studio executives support the actor if ratings start to a hit?
