Benedict Cumberbatch has quickly become a household name. He has worked on several major feature films and movies over the past few years and his most recent audition for The Hobbit is truly amazing.

The Hobbit was written by by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Jackson, and Guillermo del Toro, who was originally chosen to direct before his departure from the project. The movies take place in a fictional world called Middle Earth, sixty years before the beginning of The Lord of the Rings and follows hobbit Bilbo Baggins played by Martin Freeman who is persuaded by the wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) to accompany thirteen dwarves on a quest to reclaim Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Before, Benedict was given the role he had to audition for the role of Smaug in the movie.

Cumberbatch has worked on several TV shows including The Simpsons, Sherlock, Silent Witness, and Heartbeat. But, the actor is also known for his work on Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Star Trek Into Darkness, 12 years a Slave and the hit feature film The Hobbit.

In 2014, Time magazine included him in its annual Time100 as one of the “Most Influential People in the World”.
