Lee Daniels’ Star showrunner leaves the show days before filming starts.
Star was supposed to be one of the next biggest shows to film in the ATL. Lee Daniels’ the creative genius behind Empire and The Butler filmed the TV pilot, casting directors started casting extra and speaking roles, and production was in full force. But, only days before production was supposed to begin, Fox has faced a major problem.
The showrunner behind Lee Daniels’ Empire follow-up Star has left the show over creative differences, according to reports.
Producer and writer Charles Murray from Sons of Anarchy and Luke Cage has stepped down from the midseason new Fox show. He did not share the same vision for the show, as co-creators Lee Daniels and Tom Donaghy, according to TheWrap. And the exit was “amicable”, according to TheWrap’s sources.
Star is set in Atlanta, Georgia and follows three young women who form a girl group and navigate the music industry on their way to success. The cast includes Queen Latifah, Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny and Brittany O’Grady. The show will feature original songs, similar to Empire.
