Aspiring Atlanta Model ‘Stole $4 Million in Jewelry’ Arrested

Date:

A 24-year-old woman, lingerie football player and former model suspected of a string of robberies at jewelry stores across the Southeast and was arrested in Atlanta.

She is currently facing up to 20 years in prison.

Abigail Lee Kemp was arraigned Monday in Atlanta for allegedly of robbing six jewelry stores in five states and earning $4 million. The FBI also revealed that a second person, 35-year-old man named Lewis Jones III, had been arrested on suspicion of being involved with the jewelry store thefts. However, Jones has not yet been arraigned. He is still in custody in Dekalb County, Georgia. Apparently, police are interested in talking with him about two unsolved bank robberies from last summer.

Before Kemp was arrested she was accussed of stealing diamonds and watches in armed, “takeover-style” in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida. The FBI officials report that they believe Kemp held jewelry store employees at gunpoint and either zip-tied their hands or herded them into a back room before smashing, grabbing and making her escape.

Kemp often wore workout clothes during her robbery and she was called the “Diamond Diva” and “the shapefuly stickup artist.”

According to NBC, Kemp might have gotten away with it, if she covered her face. In fact, she gained in popularity because she didn’t bother wearing a mask nor did she cover her tracks. Kemp would use her own phone and a relatives car during the robberies. The FBI would then track her down using cell phone towers.

The AJC was able to track down a high school friend of Kemp. Apparently, Kemp worked at places like Hooters and Twin Peaks and who “literally fell off the grid” for a long time, losing track of all of her all friends.

“For nearly a year,” the AJC wrote solemnly, “her Twitter account has done nothing but publish automated horoscopes.” The paper adds, presciently:

She is a Pisces. The reading posted Sunday begins like this: “You may be overwhelmed with an unrealistic desire to avoid your current responsibilities. Although you might dream of running away to an exotic locale, you could quickly become disappointed once you realize how impractical it would be to drop everything right now.”

Kemp looked unhappy while undertaking her perp walk into court Monday, and is said to have cried in front of the judge, which is understandable since she’s looking at 20 years in prison.
