Best of Enemies Casting Call

About Best of Enemies:

The Best of Enemies will tell the story of 2 major civil rights activitists (Ann Atwater and C.P. Ellis) at a prominent point in their lives – North Carolina’s decision to integrate black and white schools. History often has a darker side, especially when dealing with history in the south, and this film will respectfully bring that darkness into the light as we deal with the issue of racism. C.P. Ellis was born and raised on the poor west side of Durham, North Carolina, and as a young man, he joined the Ku Klux Klan seeking a sense of brotherhood and belonging. That being said, we are looking for background actors who are comfortable portraying C.P.’s fellow Klansmen in 1971.
Seeking Caucasian Males, Ages 18 and Up
We are NOT seeking actual members of the Ku Klux Klan and as with any set, we hold a zero tolerance policy against racism, sexism, etc.! We are seeking actors, not pro-white activists. The majority of the Klan scenes involve a group of men at the local meeting hall. This is a time when the Klan was an accepted part of society and a supporter of the pro-segregation movement. Many prominent members of society were Klansmen, including city councilmembers, church deacons, police officers, even the local postman – as such, you can be used in more than just the Klan scenes and can also appear as regular, everyday townspeople. Seeking Caucasian Males, Ages 18 and up – we are accepting all looks, but a majority of you should appear to be clean cut, upstanding, church going folks and family men.
Subject: BROTHERHOOD
Seeking Caucasian Males, Ages 18TPY
Additonally, we are seeking a younger group of males to portray the Klan’s Youth Corps. You should be over the age of 18, but can appear to be 16 or 17 years old. The Youth Corps will be present at the Klan meeting hall, and will be featured in a separate scene at a youth training camp, so you should be physically fit and willing to do some exercise on camera. Seeking Caucasian Males, Ages 18TPY – we are accepting all looks, but a majority of you should appear to be clean cut, upstanding, church going folks and respectable young men.
Subject: YOUTH CORPS
High School Cheerleaders
Seeking Caucasian Girls, Ages 18TLY
Looking for young women who are 18 years or older that appear to be 15 to 17 years old or younger. You will be riding a float in a parade featured in the beginning of the film. You don’t have to have any experience as a cheerleader, but if you are a former or current cheerleader, please list your experience in your submission. You should have natural hair, no highlights or unusual colors.
As this is a period piece, wardrobe fittings will be required at a date TBD.
Subject: CHEERLEADER
African American School Students
