A new adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited is coming soon, with Luca Guadagnino to serve as the TV series’ director and writer.

The period drama will include a star-studded cast including Andrew Garfield, Rooney Mara, and Joe Alwyn, which will be the third adaptation of Waugh’s classic novel. The first adaptation for TV took place in 1981 as part of an 11-part series starring Jeremy Strong.

What is Brideshead Revisited About?

The story takes Britain between the two world wars and centers around Charles Ryder and his infatuation with the wealthy Flyte siblings and the rapidly disappearing world of privilege the siblings have. After befriending Lord Sebastian Flyte at Oxford, Charles is invited to spend the summer at the family’s ancestral home, Brideshead Castle, where he meets Julia, Sebastian’s sister, as well as the Flyte family, ultimately change Charles’ life forever. The book was first published in 1945 and explored Catholicism, sexuality, and relationships. 

Andrew Garfield will play Charles Ryder. Joe Alwyn, who starred in the Oscar-winning film The Favorite, will play Sebastian Flyte. Sebastian’s sister, Julia, will be played by Rooney Mara. 

Production is set to begin in Spring 2021, with filming in the United Kingdom and Italy.

Jessica Ronane Casting is looking for brilliant young actors to play roles in a two-part series for Sky. All applicants must be available for the below production dates and be based within the M25.

Production Dates: Shooting 31st May to 2nd July 2021 in the UK.

Roles:

GIRL A, 15, A grounded dreamer, street-wise but romantic. PLEASE NOTE playing age is 15 for this role, but we are looking to cast an actor of 16-20 who looks 15.

Boy A, 13, Game-obsessed, London-centric. Practical and occasionally truculent. PLEASE NOTE playing age is 13 for this role, but we are looking to cast an actor of 16-20 who looks 13.

Boy B, 7, A little terrier. Gentry. A bit opinionated despite his youth. PLEASE NOTE playing age is 7 for this role, but we are looking to cast an actor over 9 that looks 7.
