The TV series is set in the early to mid-2000s in Albuquerque, New Mexico and focuses on the coming-of-age story of Jimmy McGill, who is played by Bob Odenkirk. McGill is a lawyer and former con-man who later becomes the seedy criminal defense attorney known as Saul Goodman. What is the show about?
The show starts with Jimmy working as a public defender. As he struggles financially working in a closet of a nail salon, his love interest and former colleague, Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) attempts to assist him out of a desperate situation.
Wexler works as an attorney at Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill, which is co-owned by Jimmy’s brother Chuck McGill and associate Howard Hamlin. After hiring Jimmy for legal representation, Mike gives advice and security for Nacho Varga, a drug dealer who later becomes an informant for Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito), a drug lord and businessman. Their operations are affected by the members of the Salamanca family, including Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton).
Better Call Saul is loved by critics with particular praise for acting, characters, writing, direction and cinematography. The series has received several nominations including a Peabody Award, 21 Primetime Emmy Awards, eleven Writers Guild of America Awards, five Critics’ Choice Television Awards, four Screen Actors Guild Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards.
