Producers Say More Diversity in Hollywood is “Paying Off”

Date:

Production Guild of America says the decision to include more diversity in movies and TV shows is “paying off.”

On Friday, The PGA, the production guild of America, explained how a Diversity Master Workshop is teaching producers the importance of diverse storytelling, casting, and opportunities. Following the success of movies like Wonder Woman, Get Out, Girls Trip and Coco, and TV shows like black-ish or The Good Doctor, producers who choose not to have a diverse story will end up leaving  “money on the table”.

As a result, the PGA Diversity Master Workshop is a free, eight-week summer program that offers Master Classes headlined by some of the industry’s top producers and provides one-on-one mentoring to PGA members. Ultimately, the goal is to increase the amount of diverse representation in Hollywood.

“It starts with access. In a relationship-driven business where executives and producers hire people they know or who remind them of themselves, opportunities for those who appear different are few and far between. The Power of Diversity Master Workshop tackles this major hurdle with a simple introduction.”

This new mission to include more diverse stories and actors is great news for aspiring filmmakers, screenwriters, and actors. As emerging producers are seeking to reach higher levels in the entertainment industry, the workshop allows for them to pitch their diverse productions to some of the highest level producers in the film industry giving often unknown voices a chance to be heard.
