Miles Teller Shares Amazing Tips for Aspiring Actors

Date:

Miles Teller reveals how a car crash changed his life forever.

At only 29, Miles Teller has already starred in 14 feature films including critically acclaimed hits such as Whiplash, The Spectacular Now and Rabbit Hole, but did you know many of his roles are relating to his own life. In fact, in all three of those movies involves a car crash, a traumatic experience Teller himself went through at the age of 20. With the scars still visible on his face, it seems as though no movie is complete without a car crash.

In an interview with with MR PORTER, the actor opens up about being class president, the internet’s reaction to him dying his hair blonde, and which actors he looks up to.

But, one story sticks out is how a car accident changed his life saying: “I got lucky,” he says. “The EMT [emergency medical technician] told me 99.9 per cent of people in these cases would be dead or paralysed,” he says. “Recovery was slow. For years, I had to have steroid injections and laser surgery, the kind they use for tattoo removal. Very painful.”

In fact, Teller revealed that the scars on his face held him back early on his acting career. “John Cameron Mitchell, who directed Rabbit Hole, loved them. He thought they added complexity. But a lot of casting directors called my agent and said, ‘Miles is fine, but the character doesn’t have scars.’”

Teller also commented on how everyone is quick to judge and try to categorize who you are as an actor but, at the end of the day you have to remain optimistic.

“People are so quick to judge,” he says. “The trailer came out for War Dogs, and they were like, ‘Oh, Miles is finally on the right track.’ When Project X came out, they said, ‘Oh, he’s this frat guy’. But if you’re getting speaking parts in your twenties, that’s better than most people.”

Miles Teller is now filming Granite Mountain alongside Josh Brolin in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Originally titled “No Exit,” the film stars Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, Taylor Kitsch and James Badge Dale. “Tron: Legacy” helmer Joseph Kosinski will direct the movie, which follows the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a group of firefighters that faced one of the deadliest wildfires in history in order to save an Arizona town, resulting in the tragic death of 19 crew members. Kitsch and Bridges will play firefighters in the pic.
