#EmptyCupAwards Go Viral as Fans Bash Bad TV Acting

#EmptyCupAwards is showing the world how bad acting ruins TV shows via Instagram.

If you go on Instagram and search #EmptyCupAwards you will find dozens of videos showing actors holding empty cups of coffee and pretending that they are full. And apparently no show is safe. The CW’s Jane the Virgin showcases the leading cast holding empty cups of coffee. In addition, the Blacklist features unrealistic acting with an empty coffee cup.

While people are spending thousands of dollars on acting classes, it seems the most noticeable way that an actor is not that talented is by carrying an empty cup. From Slate:

There are moments when the “realism” of television breaks down: when framed photographs are poorly photoshopped, when video chats are unrealistically high-quality, and when driving scenes are staged using some very obvious rear projection. But for me the biggest threat to realism on television is something you may never have considered: the way that coffee cups that are supposedly full of coffee are plainly empty.
