<strong>The Bachelor</strong> is ABC's longest running reality show that tries to find love in a sea of single men and women. Despite the many changes over the years their is one thing that remains the same, all of the contestants are white.

However, in recent years the show's producers have tried to change the show's format to increase the number of minorities on the show. There were so few minorities on both <strong>The Bachelor</strong> and <strong>The Bachelorette</strong> that the show was <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/16/the-bachelor-lawsuit-dismissed_n_1969003.html" target="_blank">sued in 2012</a>. Following 2012, ABC producers increased the number of minorities on the show but that doesn't mean they lasted very long.

<blockquote>Take, for instance, Marquel, a <a href="http://jezebel.com/ladies-love-marquel-the-black-bachelor-who-wasnt-1592103420">fan favorite</a> from Andi's season of <em>The Bachelorette</em> who was reportedly never seriously considered as a potential Bachelor candidate. He was cast aside for <a href="http://jezebel.com/the-bachelor-wants-you-to-forget-about-the-ethnic-guy-f-1651937246">current Bachelor Chris Soules</a>, who had one black girl on his season who has already been sent home.

The candidates on this show certainly tell the producers what their "types" are, so personal preference has something to do with casting as well. But it's clear that the show's lack of diversity has prompted, if not a backlash, then a response from their audience, and even from other networks looking for an opportunity.</blockquote>
Most recently, in a report by Orion Hombrebueno, Larry Z. Li and Karen X. Cheng, researchers analyzed the number of non-whites on the two hit reality shows and examined when minorities were kicked off the show.

<h2>One of the contestants on the upcoming season of ABC's "The Bachelorette" has died as a result of injuries sustained in a paragliding accident over the weekend.</h2>
Eric Hill died in an accident as a result of his injuries from a paragliding accident that was not part of the show.

'Bachelorette' Contestant Reportedly in Trouble After Tweeting Racist Stuff Online

ABC has cast Rachel Lindsay as the next <em>Bachelorette, </em>making it the first time an African-American will star in the leading role in the hit franchise.

The 13th season of <em>The Bachelorette </em>will premiere on May 22 on ABC.

“We’re thrilled to have Rachel Lindsay as our next Bachelorette,” Robert Mills, senior vice president of alternative series, specials and late night for ABC, said in a statement. “This coveted role is always reserved for a fan-favorite from the previous season, and Rachel is no exception and has been the fan’s choice since she exited the limo. During this week's 'Bachelorette' season finale, Kaitlyn Bristowe chose Shawn Booth as the winner and excitedly accepted his marriage proposal. The couple then visited 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', where the host poked fun at the 'Bachelor' franchise's record for creating short and meaningless relationships and a pledge for the couples to stay together for at least a year.

Bristowe and her fiancé promised, if they’re no longer in a committed relationship as of July 27, 2016, they’ll pay Kimmel $1,000.

Well according to <a href="http://fusion.net/story/174264/how-long-do-bachelor-and-bachelorette-couples-actually-stay-together/">Fusion.net</a>, looking at the past 29 season of 'The Bachelor' and 'The Bachelorette', the average relationship only lasts about six months after the season finale airs.

'Bachelor' and 'Bachelorette': How Long Do Couples Stay Together?

<h2>'<a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/the-bachelorette/">The Bachelorette</a>' had some of the best ratings ever this season and analysts are claiming the increased amount of sexual tension had a lot to do with it.</h2>
<a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/abc/">ABC</a> may start promoting more sex scandals following this season of 'The Bachelorette'.

According to reports, 'The Bachelorette' suffered season low ratings in 2014 with Andi Dorfman, but the ratings hit a new high in season 11 with Kaitlyn Bristowe. The Hollywood Reporter <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/kaitlyn-bachelorette-how-sex-sold-811462" target="_blank">reports</a> that 'The Bachelorette' had hit the key demographic perfectly with a 2.5 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic in comparison to last year's 2.2 rating.

But, it begs the question why?
<blockquote>The ABC dating show broke numerous long-standing traditions en route to its ratings resurgence — starting with a lot more sex. The season's promos highlighted Bristowe sleeping with eventual runner-up <strong>Nick Viall</strong> in an early episode, along with the fallout as she tearfully told eventual winner <strong>Shawn Booth</strong> about her night of passion.

Sex always has been a presumed part of the equation for the franchises, but they long have been loathe to directly suggest that the contestants consummate things on the show, instead merely hinting at such activity during evenings referred to euphemistically as "fantasy-suite dates." But this season was different, as the episode in which Bristowe and Viall first did the deed featured an onscreen caption of Viall's line, overheard from behind their closed bedroom door: <strong>"I want to know every part of you."</strong></blockquote>
'The Bachelor' premiered in 2002, and the format of the show all centered with the rose ceremony. But, this season producers decided to focus on a fight or conflict at the end of every episode.

However, this made Kaitlyn one of the most hated contestants in show history. According to <a href="http://www.bustle.com/articles/98615-kaitlyn-responds-to-bachelorette-twitter-hate-on-men-tell-all-her-strength-is-inspiring" target="_blank">Bustle</a>, fans of the show reportedly cyber bullied 'The Bachelorette'. This is what Kaitlyn had to say:
<blockquote>You know, I really like to think of myself as a tough person, and I think I’m so fine with people disagreeing with me or having their opinions. That’s OK. But speaking hate the way people have been is not OK, and I don’t know. I’m almost in shock. And the hardest part for me is that it affects my family… I can handle it, it doesn’t feel good, but I can handle it, but it’s my family. They call me to see if I’m okay…. it’s really hard. It’s hurtful. I like to think that it doesn’t matter what people think about me an45d I try to preach that. I’m gonna be who I am no matter what, but when it’s thousands and thousands of comments after comments pouring in of people hating? I get death threats. That hurts.</blockquote>
It will be interesting to see if 'The Bachelor' will continue to push the envelope, or will they scale back and let love shine through.

'The Bachelorette': How ABC Used Sex and Fights to Boost Ratings
