&#145;The Birth of A Nation&#146; is the upcoming biopic of slave-turned-revolutionary Nat Turner. &#145;The Birth of a Nation&#146; features&nbsp;Aja Naomi King, Aunjanue Ellis, Colman Domingo, Armie Hammer, Dwight Henry, Roger Guenveur Smith and Gabrielle Union.

Nat Turner led a bloody rebellion in 1831 and went down in history as one of the most controversial African American figures prior to the Civil War that lost his life trying to end slavery.

Nate Parker is known for&nbsp;<em>Beyond The Lights, Red Tails,&nbsp;</em>and Arbitrage, but during a Q&amp;A session with the audience, Nate Parker revealed that he was planning on producing this film for the past seven years. Turner not only, wrote, directed and produced the film. Audience members say&nbsp;, "You can feel his blood pulsing through every frame of <em>Birth of a Nation</em>, a vital, stirring, and powerful film by and about people of color &#150; and which arrives like a hand grenade in the midst of a deafeningly loud discussion about why that&#146;s such a rarity in contemporary Hollywood."

Parker told audience members before premiering the movie,&nbsp;&#147;Anytime we&#146;re dealing with our history, specifically with slavery, I find that it has been desperately sanitized,&#148; he said. &#147;So there&#146;s a resistance to dealing with this material, so when the script goes out, people read it, they say, <em>People won&#146;t wanna see this. It&#146;s another slave movie, we&#146;ve seen those</em>&#133; And then you get, y&#146;know, <em>People overseas, they don&#146;t really wanna see people of color. </em>I think that&#146;s self-perpetuating, and I think it&#146;s <em>easy</em> to say that.&#148;

But, Parker still pushed on. Parker has walked away with some of the biggest deals in Sundance so far. In fact, Fox Searchlight, Amazon and several major distributors optioned to buy the movie for a world wide release. But, Parker sold the movie for $17.5 million beating&nbsp;<em>Manchester By the Sea&nbsp;</em>by $6.5 million.

As Variety points out, the timing for this movie's release couldn't be any more perfect. The Oscars have recently come under fire in recent weeks for nominating only white actors for the second year in a row.

At the Q&amp;A, Parker recalled how he told his agent that he wouldn&#146;t take any more jobs as an actor until he got &#147;The Birth of a Nation&#148; made. &#147;I put my own money in,&#148; he said. &#147;I sacrificed everything.&#148; He also remembered some words of wisdom that George Lucas gave him on the set of 2012&#146;s &#147;Red Tails&#148;: &#147;When everyone is telling you something can&#146;t be done,&#148; Parker was told, &#147;that&#146;s how you know you&#146;re on the right track.&#148;

Georgia Filmed 'The Birth of a Nation' is The Biggest Movie at Sundance

<h2><a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/sundance-film-festival/">Sundance Film Festival</a> starts with audience members walking out of <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/daniel-radcliffe/">Daniel Radcliffe's</a> new movie, <em><a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/swiss-army-man/">Swiss Army Man.</a></em></h2>
One of the most anticipated movies at this year's Sundance Film Festival has turned out to one of the most upsetting. According to reports, on Friday at the premiere of&nbsp;<em>Swiss Army Man&nbsp;</em>starring Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano, security was forced to turn away hundreds of movie fans and industry VIPS.

But, a few minutes later audience members kept standing up and heading for the door throughout the movie.

The movie centers around a lost man played by Paul Dano who becomes friends with a farting corpse. The Independent movie movie was directed by music video directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert&nbsp;starts with Radcliffe as a dead body washing onto a shore. Dano's haracter inspects the dead body, as it comes to life by twitching and farting.

<p style="padding-left: 30px;">The story unfolds in a magical realist style and features long discussions about masturbation, isolation and the meaning of life. It also features a kiss between Dano and Radcliffe (who continues to flee his Harry Potter image by taking part in a reoccurring gag where his dead character maintains an erection).</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">&#147;The chance to play a dead guy in this context was too much fun to pass up,&#148; Radcliffe said in an audience Q and A.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Scheinert said the inspiration for the story was &#147;a fart joke.&#148;</p>

Audience Walks Out on Daniel Radcliffe's New Movie 'Swiss Army Man'

<h2><a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/julie-delpy/">Julie Delpy</a> says being black in <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/oscars/">Hollywood</a> is easier than being a woman at this year's <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/sundance-film-festival/">Sundance Film Festival.</a></h2>
Frustration over Hollywood's diversity controversy is spreading over into the Sundance Film Festival on Friday, as actress and Hollywood writer Julie Delpy said she felt held down by the industry and added that there's "nothing worse than being a woman in this business."

Delpy, who was Oscar-nominated as a writer both for&nbsp;<em>Before Midnight&nbsp;</em>and&nbsp;<em>Before Sunset,&nbsp;</em>said that she said she raised the issue of how few women were members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and was shut down.

&#147;Two years ago, I said something about the Academy being very white male, which is the reality, and I was slashed to pieces by the media,&#148; she told TheWrap&#146;s Jeff Sneider. &#147;It&#146;s funny &#151; women can&#146;t talk. I sometimes wish I were African American because people don&#146;t bash them afterward.&#148;

Delpy is currently promoting her new movie with Danny DeVito and Kieran Culkin,&nbsp;<em>Weiner Dog.&nbsp;</em>And Danny DeVito reiterated Delpy's feelings:&nbsp;&#147;It&#146;s unfortunate that we&#146;re xenophobic, it&#146;s unfortunate that women make 30 percent less than men in various times,&#148; he said. &#147;I just found out happens in the film business. women are hired for less money than men.&#148;

But, Twitter users quickly bashed Delpy for her comments:

Oscar Nominated Actress Says Being Black Is Easier Than Being a Woman in Hollywood

<h2>Sundance Institute and Project 1324 are teaming up and looking for aspiring filmmakers around the world to tackle this short film challenge.</h2>
Project 1324 and Sundance Institute are looking for films that are "pure, bold, renegade, independent, innovative, next wave, next breed, and stylistically adventurous," in order to compete in the Ignite Fellowship. Five top filmmakers will have the opportunity for mentorship, industry exposure and other opportunities throughout the year including:
<blockquote>The Sundance Ignite Fellows Program is a competitive fellowship that provides opportunities for engagement, mentorship and industry exposure for emerging filmmakers during the Sundance Film Festival and select opportunities throughout the following year. The Ignite award includes a special ticket package for the 2016 Sundance Film Festival; roundtrip flight to Salt Lake City, UT; ground transportation to/from Park City, UT; lodging; and a stipend for meals.</blockquote>
Films must be between one and eight minutes in length and respond to the question "What's Next?" You must be between the ages 18 and 24 to participate.

A special website will open on October 29th to receive and showcase submissions. Submit your film as early as you can so the Project 1324 community has the chance to watch and review.Submissions close on November 16, 2015.

Founded in 1932, the Venice Film Festival coverages a wide range of arts, including art, architecture, dance, music, and theater. The Sundance Film Festival is part of the Sundance Institute and takes place in Park City, Utah. The film festival has over 40,000 attendees every year and is the largest indie film festival in the United States. The festival is a showcase for new work from US and international indie filmmakers. The film festival also has a competitive section for dramas, documentaries, feature films, short films, and out-of-competition screenings including, NEXT, New Frontier, Spotlight, Midnight, Premieres, and Documentary Premieres. Sundance film festival takes place in January.

The 2019 Sundance Film Festival began on January 24 and went on February 3. The 2020 event will take place from January 23 to February 2, 2020.

The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the largest publicly attended film festivals in the world, with over 400,000 people attending every year. The Berlinale, also known as the Berlin International Film Festival, is a film festival held every year in Berlin, Germany. The Berlin Film Festival was founded in 1951; the celebration has been held every year since 1978.

With over 300,000 tickets sold every year, it has the most significant public attendance at an annual film festival. Up to 400 films are shown across multiple genres. Around 20 films compete for the Berlinale's top award, the Golden Bear.

One of the biggest attractions during the Berlin International Film Festival is the European Film Market. The European Film Market is an event that is held at the same time as the Berlinale and is known for being an important industry meeting for international films. Sundance Film Fest 2019: Casting Call for Promo Models

<h2>The Georgia filmed movie <em><a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/birth-of-a-nation/">Birth of a Nation</a> </em>takes home the top <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/sundance-film-festival/">Sundance Awards</a>.</h2>
Nate Parker's <em>The Birth of A Nation, </em>the drama about a slave revolt that became the sensation of this year's Sundance Film Festival, has won the festival's audience and one of the biggest prizes of the year.

The movie, which centers around the real-life rebellion led by Nat Turner, debuted to standing ovations at Sundance only days after the Motion Picture Academy changed their rules in response to the #OscarsSoWhite backlash.

<em>Birth of a Nation </em>was sold to Fox Searchlight for $17.5 million, after being offered for $20 million by Netflix.

"I made this film for one reason — in the hope of creating change agents," said writer/director/star Nate Parker during the film's Q&amp;A. "You can watch this film and see there are systems that were in place that were corrupt and corrupted people. And the legacy of that still lives with us."

Some of the biggest movies premiering at Sundance, would later become Oscar Best Picture nominees <em>Whiplash, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Winter's Bone </em>and <em>Fruitvale Station.</em>

Georgia Filmed 'Birth of A Nation' Takes Top Sundance Awards

<h2>Is <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/lena-dunham/">Lena Dunham</a> a hypocrite?</h2>
During an interview at the <a href="http://www.eonline.com/news/733980/lena-dunham-on-hollywood-diversity-we-have-a-serious-problem">Sundance Film Festival</a>, Dunham urged Hollywood to "stop ignoring" non-white actors, filmmakers, and crew members.

“The idea that there aren’t enough diverse filmmakers or there aren’t enough woman filmmakers to give jobs to, it’s simply a fallacy and I know that because I’m here and I’m seeing the movies,” <a href="http://www.eonline.com/news/733980/lena-dunham-on-hollywood-diversity-we-have-a-serious-problem" target="_blank">Dunham said</a>.

“If the studio system is ignoring these voices then we have a very serious problem. They are and the fact is this dialogue, and the promises that the Academy has made, is the beginning of shifting that, but what really needs to happen is that people need to take notice and give resources to these voices.”

But it wasn't that long ago that Dunham was criticized for her own lack of diversity.

The 29-year-old is the creator, writer and star of the <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/hbo/">HBO</a> series <em><a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/girls/">Girls</a>, </em>and in 2013, she was bashed because the show's four main characters were all white. Dunham would later call it "an accident".

“I take that criticism very seriously,” Dunham said when asked about the lack of diversity in her own show. “As much as I can say [writing four white main characters] was an accident, it was only later as the criticism came out, I thought, ‘I hear this and I want to respond to it.'”

The few lucky people who saw <em>Birth of a Nation </em>for the first time at this year's <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/sundance-film-festival/">Sundance Film Festival</a> found out that Gabrielle Union has a featured background acting role in Nate Parker's not yet released movie.

For her small role in the movie about Nat Turner's slave uprising in Virginia, which sold for $17.5 million after a major bidding war, Union plays a slave who is sexually assaulted on the plantation where the rebellion starts.

After the Sundance screening, having watched the movie for the first time like everyone else, Union told New York Magazine's Jada Yuan she was still shocked.

“Watching the film I had a lot of rage for my ancestors and for us today because so much has not changed. It’s still the same,” says Union. “But watching Nate come on—don’t tell my husband—I’ve never been more proud of anyone in my life. <em>In my life. </em>When it said ‘Nate Parker wrote, Nate Parker directed. Nate Parker produced!’ I just had so much pride. So much fucking pride, and it’s so important.”

Gabrielle Union's character originally had a speaking role in the movie, but after a discussion with the movie's director, she says they decided on cutting the lines to let the silence speak for itself.

The other emotional aspect of filming, Union added, was the mere act of being on set and feeling the weight of creating such a powerful movie. “It is haunted with horrors, and families ripped apart and bodies broken and souls shredded. You feel it,” says Union. “I walked on set, and I’m not a crying person—despite the snot that you saw, I’m not a fan of snot in film. But what happened once I got to work, I don’t know. All I kept thinking was, <em>The chick from Bring It On is about to fuck up this movie.</em>”
