John Cho  who plays Hikaru Sulu in Stark Trek and Star Trek 2, recently participated in a <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/john-cho-star-trek-3-740291" target="_blank">Reddit AMA</a>, where he answered questions about the upcoming feature films. "I'm absolutely confident in Bob," Cho said. "No one knows these characters better than Bob. And no one knows the Star Trek universe better than Bob."

<h2>Star Trek sequel, Star Trek 3 to Start Filming in 6 Months</h2>
Star Trek 3 is ramping up production, according to Zachary Quinto.

According to <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/zachary-quinto-says-third-star-733880">The Hollywood Reporter</a>, Star Trek actor, Zachary Quinto revealed that filming for the third Star Trek movie may start shortly.

“I think it’s on the horizon,” Quinto said, adding that “things are rumbling, so I have a feeling that we will be in production sometime in the next six months.”

This will be the first Star Trek movie without J.J. Abrams. It is reported that Roberto Orci, who co-wrote the first two movie will work as a director in the movie.

Rumors circulate that the series characters will be closer to the TV series than before.
<blockquote>Orci confirmed with fan site TrekMovie that the first draft of the screenplay was finished in mid-August, and had previously stated that the movie will feature the characters “closer… to the original [television] series characters than you have ever seen,” with the crew of the Starship Enterprise finally out on their first five-year mission into deep space.</blockquote>
Production probably won't start until spring 2015, and it looks as though the movie will be released on the franchise's 50th year anniversary. The original show debuted on Sept. 8, 1966.

According to The National, casting directors are looking for talents between the ages of 6 and 70 to audition for a role.

The open casting call will be held at&nbsp;Dubai Studio City&#146;s soundstage (Building B) at some point from Tuesday August 11 until Thursday August 13, between 2pm and 8pm.

'Star Trek 3' is produced by JJ Abrams (director the previous two Star Trek films and of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, which filmed in Abu Dhabi in May 2014), and directed by Justin Lin, a veteran of the Fast and Furious franchise.

Filming will only last for a few days, rather than a few weeks or months but, casting directors are now casting a ton of extra.

Paramount has announced that the next film in the franchise, is planned to be released in July 2016, in time for the franchise's 50th anniversary. Due to Abrams' commitment directing <a title="Star Wars: The Force Awakens" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Force_Awakens">Star Wars: The Force Awakens</a>, he will be a producer but not direct. 'Star Trek 3' will be directed by Justin Lin and will feature Chris Pine, Zoe Saladana and Zachary Quinto.

Idris Elba in Talks for Villain Role on 'Star Trek 3'

<h2>The director of Fast and Furious 6, Justin Lin is set to direct the third Star Trek movie.</h2>
Justin Lin is best known for directing many of the <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/fast-and-furious/">Fast and Furious</a>, has signed on to direct the third <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/star-trek/">Star Trek</a> movie, according to reports.

Justin Lin replaces Roberto Orci, who left the project earlier this month.

The first two installments of the Star Trek franchises were directed by J.J. Abrams, who did not return for the third so he could direct the new Star Wars film.

Justin Lin directed Fast &amp; Furious 6, Fast Five, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and 2009's Fast &amp; Furious. He was most recently attached to direct The Bourne Betrayal, which was expected to star Jeremy Renner, but those plans were scrapped when <a title="Matt Damon is Returning to the ‘Bourne’ Franchise" href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/news/matt-damon-bourne/">Matt Damon wanted to return to the series</a>. The new movie was directed by Paul Greengrass moves forward.

Roberto Orci has quit working on the sequel to <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/star-trek-3/" target="_blank">Star Trek 3</a>. Orci was going to make his directorial debut with the movie, replacing J.J. Abrams. Abrams directed the first two movies but left to work on&nbsp;<a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/star-wars-7/">Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens</a>

Reasons for Orci's departure were not immediately revealed and nobody is quite sure why Orci will not work on the new Star Trek movie.

<a href="http://deadline.com/2014/12/star-trek-roberto-orci-1201311255/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Deadline</a> reports that Edgar Wright, the former director of <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/ant-man/" target="_blank">Ant-Man</a>,&nbsp;and others are on the short list to take over for Orci.

Not much is known about Star Trek 3's storyline. But, there were rumors that William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy might return to their iconic roles of Kirk and Spock for cameos in the film (if not bigger roles). However,&nbsp;<a href="http://badassdigest.com/2014/12/05/star-trek-3-may-be-saved-as-orci-exits/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Badass Digest</a> is now reporting that "the script Orci was working on saw the Enterprise, the Vulcans and a new alien race competing to get a time travel device. The Vulcans want to go back and stop the destruction of their planet, and the time travel schtick is what would allow Chris Pine and William Shatner to share the screen."
