Shooting for the anime adaptation Ghost in the Shell is set to start filming out of Wellington's Stone Street Studios in January next year.

The DreamWorks Studio film is based on the critically acclaimed Japanese manga and anime series of the same name about a cyborg police officer attempting to bring down a computer hacker played by Scarlett Johannson.

Johansson, who is a BAFTA and Esquires magazine's Sexiest Woman Alive in 2013, is reportedly getting ready to work on the new Ghost in the Shell Movie.

According to reports, extras waited over an hour to be seen by casting directors.
<blockquote>Chris McMorran, 29, went to an audition last Wednesday, where he was number 960 in the line after one just an hour of the casting call opening.

Inside, he had four photos taken, and was asked to pose like a bouncer. Slim females were asked if they had dancing experience, he said.

ScarJo was not in attendance, although there was plenty of buzz around the actress coming to Wellington.

"I wouldn't say it was like, 'Oh my God we're going to work with ScarJo', it was more like, 'Oooh we might see her at the fish and chip shop'," McMorran said. All actors interested in working in the movie are expected to be available in Wellington between March and May 2016. Ghost in the Shell casting director, Liz Mullane, who also worked on Lord of the Rings, The Lovely Bones and The Hobbit, said her team had seen "hundreds and hundreds" of hopefuls over the past month.

Casting directors are casting a ton of roles in the upcoming feature film. Basically, anyone 18 years or older can apply.

"We got people from all sorts of walks of life, every imaginable cross-section of people, really," Mullane said.

She did not yet know how many people they would end up needing. "It's very early in the process, so it's just a matter of collecting great faces.

"The next stage in the process is presenting the people we've seen to the director and making decisions and going from there."

Those who were successful would probably hear back within the next two months, she said.

Hundreds Audition for Scarlett Johansson's 'Ghost in the Shell'

<h2>Ghost in the Shell&nbsp;starring Scarlett Johansson is now holding an open casting call in Wellington, New Zealand.</h2>
Rachel Bullock Casting posted a casting call for extras to appear in the Dreamworks and Paramount Pictures' upcoming live-action thriller,&nbsp;Ghost in the Shell.&nbsp;The casting call is for people of all ethnicities, age 18 and over, and able to work.

Filming is started to begin from Wellington's Stone Street Studios in January 2016.

Dreamworks and Paramount are con-financing and co-producing the film. Paramount will handle the international release of the upcomign feature film and Dreamworks will handle the release according to their original deal with Disney. The movie is set to open on March 31, 2017.

Disney initially scheduled the release of the live-action film for April 14, 2017, but announced its plans to push forward the release of the movie into April.

Scarlett Johansson, the actress most known for&nbsp;Lucy, Lost in Translation,&nbsp;and&nbsp;The Avengers&nbsp;signed on to star in this adaptation of&nbsp;<cite class="e person">Masamune Shirow</cite>'s manga, and <cite class="e person">Rupert Sanders</cite> (<cite>Snow White and the Huntsman</cite>) will direct off a script by <cite class="e person">William Wheeler</cite> (<cite>Hoax, The Reluctant Fundamentalist</cite>).

Johannson revealed earlier in April that the film "will be shooting the beginning of next year, so I think we start production January or February." Deadline reported earlier this year that she was offered $10 million for the role.

'Ghost in the Shell' Starring Scarlett Johansson Open Casting Call

<h2>Hostel owner drugged tourists and filmed his own personal horror movies.</h2>
Police in New Zealand have recently arrested a hostel owner who drugged and assaulted hundreds of backpackers many of whom may have no idea it ever happened.

Michael Harris, 56, was charged for assaulting 16 male tourists who stayed at his Hostel over the last two years. Police report that he made "intimate visual recordings" with the men, who were mostly overseas tourists.

"These victims are unlikely to know that something has happened to them, although they may have suspicions," Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnson <a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/new-zealand-hostel-owner-drugged-molested-16-backpackers-police-article-1.1935373" target="_blank">told reporters Wednesday</a>.

Authorities are still looking to see if there were additional victims.

It is not clear how police originally discovered his horror movie factor, but Harris is facing a ton of charges.

It is scary to think that the 2005 horror movie, Hostel actually became a true story.

Hostel Owner Drugged Tourists to Create Personal Horror Movies

I am not Santa Clause and I play him often. That is why it is called acting.
Many years back I played Mom Ma bear should they have gotten a real female bear
for that part. This fellow Cliff owns the parts he plays. Very talented fellow. But i
do know what people mean when they complain about this. That is because the world is to serious today. Politically correct bullshit.

He is very talented.  I ain't mad at him.  He is very versatile.

It depends on if the actor relies on ethnic stereotypes or not. If their act is just what they think the ethnic heritage entails, then no they shouldn't be playing the part. If  the actor researches fully and well, then they should be able to branch out and play other ethnicities, so long as they can look the part. Culture isn't just in how we look, or how we are raised, nor is it stereotypical. It is also how we live our lives and what we believe. If you can act with that in mind, with reverence to the people you are representing, then GO for it.

I take it that by "every ethnicity" you mean "three ethnicities"?

<h2>Cliff Curtis, from New Zealand is one of few actors in Hollywood that has the ability to play every ethnicity.</h2>
In a recent interview by&nbsp;Slate,&nbsp;with Cliff Curtis, June Thomas the reporter asks him about how he feels about playing a different ethnicity in Hollywood.

&#147;I take the responsibility of playing another ethnicity very, very seriously,&#148; he says, &#147;and I promise myself and those people that I will represent them with as much dignity and integrity as I can muster. I&#146;m not fooling around. I don&#146;t want to make a fool of that cultural heritage. I represent them as I would represent my own.&#148;

In the video you can see Curtis play several different ethnicities realistically.

<h2>Director James Cameron announced today that he will make three sequels to the 2009 sci-fi hit Avatar in New Zealand.</h2>
Cameron made the announcement after speaking with producer Jon Landau and Prime Minister John Key. The films will be produced by Lighstorm Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox.

Avatar was shot originally in New Zealand and won three Academy Awards and one of the highest grossing projects in filmmaking history. James Cameron expects to film all three sequels at one time and release the film in three seperate parts. The first release is expected in Christmas 2016 followed by a release every year afterward for three years until 2018.
<blockquote>“It’s quite a thrill to be officially saying that we’re bringing the Avatar films to New Zealand,” he told a press conference. “We had such a wonderful experience here making the first film.”</blockquote>
Cameron aid he has already started writing and desiging the sequels to Avatar.

New Zealand's government has offered and agreed to a 25% tax rebate for the film. So, New Zealand will pay for 25% of all costs for filming. The agreement also states that Lightstorm and Twentieth Century Fox will spend at least $413 million dollars in New Zealand on the movies.

The Prime Minister John Key commented on the project. Key said the announcement comes with excitement and relief for the New Zealand film industry.

The industry had been facing a downturn as work winds down on Jackson’s trilogy.

New Zealand Auditions: Casting Call for Kid Models and Actors

<h2>'<a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/avatar/">Avatar</a>' and '<a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/lord-of-the-rings/">Lord of the Rings</a>' restart production after New Zealand restarts the film industry.</h2>
According to <a href="https://deadline.com/2020/05/new-zealand-returns-to-production-paving-way-for-avatar-sequels-to-resume-live-action-filming-1202929138/">Deadline</a>, New Zealand’s health and safety production protocols are officially endorsed by the national government. As a result, filming can restart in the country after it was shut down due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. 
TV shows and movies to continue filming in New Zealand include James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ sequels and Amazon’s ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series. 
On an interesting side note, both productions did not completely shut down as Deadline reports they continued to work on the film’s virtual production in California with Weta Digital for special effects.
Production on ‘Avatar’ started in 2017 with a budget of more than $1 billion. Earlier this year, release dates for ‘Avatar’ were announced for ‘Avatar 2’ on December 17, 2021, ‘Avatar 3’ in December 2023, ‘Avatar 4’ in December 2025 and ‘Avatar 5’ in December 2027. 
Meanwhile, ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series started casting in February with talent agencies looking for character types actors for both extras and speaking roles. The series was reportedly filming the first two episodes of the series, which is directed by J.A. Bayona.

The New Zealand Film Commission reports every production in the country will be required to complete a registration with ScreenSafe to help the Ministry of Health with tracking and monitoring the Coronavirus. 
New Zealand Film Commission CEO Annabelle Sheehan said, “The NZFC’s focus and commitment since the industry hiatus, has been the health and safety of all those who work in the New Zealand film industry and the ongoing sustainability of the wider screen sector. We are heartened and grateful for the hard work and partnership of the guilds who have worked to get this document completed so quickly.”
In relevant news, <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/news/sweden-denmark-coronavirus/">Sweden and Denmark have restarted TV and movie production</a>.

Sweden and Denmark are among the first countries in the world to put in place specific government guidelines and allow production to start.

The measures were listed in a document called the “<a href="http://nordicfilmguide.com/">Nordic Film Guide”</a> made with production company Hobby Film and based data from both Sweden and Denmark. Hobby Film, which mostly makes commercials and is known for producing projects for H&amp;M, Netflix, McDonald’s, and Heineken.

The new rules cancel the possibility of large crowd scenes and large production staff numbers.

“It is deemed irresponsible to execute crowd scenes where social distancing cannot be upheld to a satisfactory degree, as the risk of contagion is considered to be too high,” said the guide, sharing the example of a nightclub scene is a health risk.

Kissing and intimate scenes are not recommended for those older than 70. The Scandanavian website explains there “are no official rules regarding kissing, sex scenes and scenes that require one actor to touch another’s face,” casting actors at an “increased risk of severe illness.”

'The Lord of the Rings' Series to Resume Production After New Zealand Restarts Filming

<h2>Here's where <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/disney/">Disney</a> is going to film the live-action <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/mulan/">Mulan</a> movie</h2>
According to <a href="https://omegaunderground.com/2018/04/12/update-disney-to-begin-shooting-mulan-this-august-in-new-zealand-and-china/">reports</a>, Disney to begin shooting Mulan this August 2018 in New Zealand and China. Earlier this week news broke that Donnie Yen would be joining the cast of the upcoming live-action Mulan movie directed by Niki Caro. Omega Underground reports that filming will take place sometime this August with production locations in various countries including New Zealand and China. Disney has given Mulan the updated release date of March 27, 2020.
The original “Mulan” centered around a young woman who disguises herself as a man to take her father’s place in the army with her dragon friend Mushu. ‘Mulan’ grossed over $300 million worldwide and with the recent success of ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ ‘Maleficent,’ and ‘Cinderella,’ expect ‘Mulan’ to be a box office award winner.

Disney's Live-Action 'Mulan' To Film in China and New Zealand

A New Zealand high school production of Johnny Depp's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street had a disastrous opening night when two teen actors had their necks cut by a prop straight razor on stage, according to reports.

The two 16-year-old actors were rushed to the hospital on Wednesday night after sustaining serious injuries during a performance of a musical about a murderous barber at St. Kentigern College, a private school in Auckland, the New Zealand hospital Thursday. From TVNZ:
<div class="zn-body__paragraph" style="padding-left: 60px;">"It's a razor, but it's been filed down and bound with various things," he said, adding that the prop did not have a sharp edge and had been used during rehearsals without any problem.</div>

<div class="zn-body__paragraph" style="padding-left: 60px;">"It was an unfortunate isolated incident which we're of course very disturbed about," he said.</div>

<div class="zn-body__paragraph" style="padding-left: 60px;">Asked by a reporter whether a plastic prop blade should have been used instead, he replied, "In hindsight that may be a reasonable point."</div>

<div class="zn-body__paragraph" style="padding-left: 60px;">"It was deemed important to make it as realistic as possible," he told reporters.</div>

The musical centers around the story of the "demon barber of Fleet Street" in Victorian London, who kills customers by slitting their throats, then getting rid of their remains by turning them into pies.

The school's promotional materials for the production featured an image of a bloodied straight razor resting on top of a pie.

Police are currently investigating, but the school was confident no foul-play was involved, according to TVNZ.

This is not the first time an actor was harmed on set of a theater production. In January, an Italian actor was killed in a botched hanging scene in an experimental theater performance in Italy. In December a Japanese actor died when he was stabbed in the stomach with a samurai sword during a rehearsal.
