<h2>A <a href="http://www.thepetitionsite.com/505/768/292/">petition</a> is going viral as fans urge Disney to cast an Asian actress for the role of Mulan in the upcoming live-action remake.</h2>
Since, the petition started, over 90,000 people have signed.

The petition creator Natalie Molnar aims to prevent a "whitewashed" version of Mulan. She points out movies like <em>The Last Airbender, Pan </em>and the upcoming <em>Ghost in the Shell </em>have all whitewashed the movie characters.

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Children benefit from finding themselves represented in fiction, which is part of why campaigns such as #weneeddiversebooks are so vital. It also perpetuates a standard of beauty and goodness wherein whites are considered the ideal and norm despite that not only are Americans diverse, but the entire world is. As for the acting community, keeping diverse actors out of what should be diverse roles severely limits the number of roles they can get, especially a potentially name-making role such as Mulan's eponymous character would surely be. </span></p>

<h3>But, I find it extremely hard to believe that Disney would not cast an Asian-American actress for the role.</h3>
Considering how important the Chinese box office has become lately, it would be in the company's best interest to cast a character that appeals to Asian audiences.
<h3><em>Mulan </em>centers around a young woman who disguises herself as a man so she can join the army and fight in a war.</h3>
The character first appeared in an ancient Chinese poem, and it is currently <span class="s1">unknown whether Mulan actually existed or if it is just a metaphor.</span>

<em>Mulan </em>grossed over $300 million worldwide, when it was released in 1998. And while the movie has not announced the cast, it will be interesting to see how this all pans out.

According to reports, Disney is planning to make a live-action version of all of their popular cartoon movies. The next movie they plan to remake is the hit Disney classic, 'Mulan'.

Disney's Live-Action 'Mulan' To Film in China and New Zealand

<h2>Nina Henninger Casting is now casting talent for a major speaking role in an upcoming feature film.</h2>
<p>Nina Henninger Casting, who is the casting director behind&nbsp;<em>Mulan,</em>&nbsp;according to <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0377446/">IMDB</a>,<em>&nbsp;</em>is now casting Japanese actors, models, and talent to audition for a role in a new movie. Producers are looking for Japanese women ages 18 to 25 years old to work on the production. Auditions will take place in San Francisco, California. This is a major motion picture sequel open casting call for the role of Nori. Details surrounding the feature film have not been released. <strong>Mulan:</strong> 18 - 20 years old to play 18; must be able to speak fluent English and Mandarin Chinese; lithe, athletic, quick, tougher than she looks, Mulan lives in rural China in 630 AD, and her country is besieged, under attack by the Gokturk invaders. When her aging father volunteers to join the Army, Mulan sneaks out by night and takes his place, strapping down her breasts so she can pass for a man. There is a mysterious power inside Mulan, a power of speed and coordination and sheer force that places her at the peak of her unit- where no one suspects her secret.

<strong>Chen Honghui -</strong> In his 20s, must be able to speak fluent English and Mandarin Chinese; strapping, cocky and handsome, Honghui is another recruit who joins Commander Tung's unit, and he's determined to be the best soldier in human history. Full of himself, with a mean, bullying stream to him, he quickly realizes that Mulan is his chief rival, but he does not realize that she is a woman. Grittily determined to be simply the best at everything, Honghui is increasingly peeved by Mulan's ability to match or out-maneuver him. But after learning that his rival is a woman, his intense feelings of rivalry turn into something very different, something like love.

Disney's 'Mulan' Casting Call for Lead Roles

<h2><a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/disney/">Disney</a> is going to hold a worldwide open casting call for the lead role of <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/news/disney-mulan">Mulan</a>.</h2>
Disney has confirmed that they will be moving forward with the live action treatment of <em>Mulan. </em>A 2018 movie theater release has been set by the studio and pre-production is underway, starting with an open casting call. The movie is said to be looking for a Chinese actress to play the lead role.

<a href="http://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/disney-launches-global-casting-search-live-action-mulan-report-n659421">NBC News</a> reports that <a href="http://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/disney-launches-global-casting-search-live-action-mulan-report-n659421">Disney</a> has launched an open casting call to find the actress to play the the lead role.

This news comes after a petition was filed asking Disney to carefully choose the cast and discourage whitewashing of the movie's cast.

According to the Huffington Post, the term whitewashing is indicative of the practice where Caucasian actors are cast for non-white characters. And It is no secret that white washing has become commonplace in Hollywood. Recently, Emma Stone was cast for a character who is supposedly Asian/Hawaiian in the recently released feature film, <em>Aloha. </em>Scarlett Johansson was also cast for another Asian role in the live-action version of the anime <em>Ghost in the Shell </em>because the movie couldn't reportedly find an A-list female Asian actress. But Disney's move to go with a Chinese lead actress should assure fans that the company is listening to fans, criticisms and petitions.

Disney was released in 1998, which featured Asian actors Ming-Na Wen and Lea Salonga for the lead role. The live screen remake will reportedly take points from the 20 year old animated movie, but it will also feature new material.
