<h2>'<a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/avatar/">Avatar</a>' and '<a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/lord-of-the-rings/">Lord of the Rings</a>' restart production after New Zealand restarts the film industry.</h2>
According to <a href="https://deadline.com/2020/05/new-zealand-returns-to-production-paving-way-for-avatar-sequels-to-resume-live-action-filming-1202929138/">Deadline</a>, New Zealand’s health and safety production protocols are officially endorsed by the national government. As a result, filming can restart in the country after it was shut down due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. 
TV shows and movies to continue filming in New Zealand include James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ sequels and Amazon’s ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series. 
On an interesting side note, both productions did not completely shut down as Deadline reports they continued to work on the film’s virtual production in California with Weta Digital for special effects.
Production on ‘Avatar’ started in 2017 with a budget of more than $1 billion. Earlier this year, release dates for ‘Avatar’ were announced for ‘Avatar 2’ on December 17, 2021, ‘Avatar 3’ in December 2023, ‘Avatar 4’ in December 2025 and ‘Avatar 5’ in December 2027. 
Meanwhile, ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series started casting in February with talent agencies looking for character types actors for both extras and speaking roles. The series was reportedly filming the first two episodes of the series, which is directed by J.A. Bayona.

The New Zealand Film Commission reports every production in the country will be required to complete a registration with ScreenSafe to help the Ministry of Health with tracking and monitoring the Coronavirus. 
New Zealand Film Commission CEO Annabelle Sheehan said, “The NZFC’s focus and commitment since the industry hiatus, has been the health and safety of all those who work in the New Zealand film industry and the ongoing sustainability of the wider screen sector. We are heartened and grateful for the hard work and partnership of the guilds who have worked to get this document completed so quickly.”
In relevant news, <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/news/sweden-denmark-coronavirus/">Sweden and Denmark have restarted TV and movie production</a>.

Sweden and Denmark are among the first countries in the world to put in place specific government guidelines and allow production to start.

The measures were listed in a document called the “<a href="http://nordicfilmguide.com/">Nordic Film Guide”</a> made with production company Hobby Film and based data from both Sweden and Denmark. Hobby Film, which mostly makes commercials and is known for producing projects for H&amp;M, Netflix, McDonald’s, and Heineken.

The new rules cancel the possibility of large crowd scenes and large production staff numbers.

“It is deemed irresponsible to execute crowd scenes where social distancing cannot be upheld to a satisfactory degree, as the risk of contagion is considered to be too high,” said the guide, sharing the example of a nightclub scene is a health risk.

Kissing and intimate scenes are not recommended for those older than 70. The Scandanavian website explains there “are no official rules regarding kissing, sex scenes and scenes that require one actor to touch another’s face,” casting actors at an “increased risk of severe illness.”

'The Lord of the Rings' Series to Resume Production After New Zealand Restarts Filming

[&#8230;] Amazon’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ Series Will Run for 5 Seasons [&#8230;]

<h2><a href="http://ww.projectcasting.com/tag/amazon/">Amazon's</a> <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/lord-of-the-rings/">Lord of the Rings</a> will run for five seasons.</h2>
Earlier reports revealed Amazon bought the rights to a Lord of the Rings series for a quarter-billion dollars and that production will end up costing the streaming company $1 billion and will run for five seasons.

According to reports, the first season will not be about Hobbits and orcs. In fact, according to reports, the series will not repeat the movies. Instead, it will draw from the massive amount of notes that Tolkien put together in writing the books and cover a lot of the movie's backstory. It seems as though the new Amazon show will end up connecting up loose storylines that were presented int he movies.

But, it begs the question, will the actors from the movies be back. Showrunners usually want to have a clean slate so the series will have its own identity, however, that remains to be seen.

One thing for sure is that with a billion dollars in production capital, this show will be bigger than anything else.

Amazon's 'Lord of the Rings' Series Will Run for 5 Seasons

[&#8230;] ‘Lord of the Rings’ TV Series: Ian McKellen Wants to Play Gandalf [&#8230;]

<h2 class="p1">Sir Ian McKellan wants a shot at playing Gandalf in the upcoming Lord of the Rings TV show.</h2>
In November, Amazon made a deal to adapt the series J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved novels, a franchise that many associates with Ian McKellan’s acting as a wizard. During an appearance on Graham Norton’s BBC Radio 2 show on Saturday, McKellan was asked if it will bother him if another actor plays Gandalf. He responded, “What do you mean, another Gandalf?”
“I haven’t said yes because I haven’t been asked,” McKellen added. “But are you suggesting that someone else is going to play it? Gandalf is over 7000 years old, so I’m not too old.”
Even though there is a multi-season commitment, which also includes a possible spin-off series, the franchise has already been heavily reproduced in Peter Jackson’s series of films. 
The original series will be produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment. 
Lord of the Rings will explore new storylines before Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring, according to Amazon.

'Lord of the Rings' TV Series: Ian McKellen Wants to Play Gandalf

<h2>Nicolas Cage says he was offered a role in The Lord of the Rings and The Matrix but had to turn it down.</h2>
Nicolas Cage seems like he has a very unique process when it comes to deciding which movies he's going to star in. He has plenty of classics such as Face/Off and National Treasure but, every so often there's a major disaster such as Left Behind or Season of the Witch which makes us question his acting process. But what if Cage went through with his alleged offer to be in The Matrix? Better yet, what if Nicolas Cage played Strider/Aragorn in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy? Both nearly happened.

In a recent interview with Newsweek, Nicolas Cage revealed that he had offers on the table to star in both Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Lord of the Rings and The Matrix. The problem was he was forced to turn them down, likely changing movie history and probably making Nicolas Cage's biggest regrets of all time.
<blockquote>I don’t really have any regrets. I think regret is a waste of time. I try to always move forward as opposed to dwelling on the past or the movies that might have happened. There certainly were movies that I probably would have benefited from if circumstances in my life allowed me to make them…

Lord of the Rings. That trilogy. Aragorn. Or The Matrix. But the thing is about those movies, I can watch them. I can enjoy them as an audience member. I don’t really watch my own movies. And so I genuinely do have the joy of watching these—especially with Lord of the Rings.</blockquote>

Viggo Mortensen made the role of Aragon unique, but having Nic Cage play him may have transformed the movie completely. Motivational speeches, Nicolas Cage action figures, and possible a Nic Cage Lord of the Rings spin-off. But, the actor revealed he had a good reason for turning it down:
<blockquote>Were you offered a role in that?
Yeah…. There were different things going on in my life at the time that precluded me from being able to travel and be away from home for three years. And I do mean it. I get to enjoy the movies as an audience member, because I don’t watch my own movies.</blockquote>
I think the major thing to take away from this story is that Nic Cage does not watch his own movies. But, he's not alone. Plenty of actors don't watch their own movies. But, it does demonstrate how movies take on a completely different meaning when you are in front of the camera then when you are watching it from the comfort of your living room.

<h2>Warner Bros. Excitingly Confirms That It Is Making a Series of Additional 'Lord of the Rings Movies!</h2>
On Thursday, February 23rd, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, revealed on an earnings call that the company&rsquo;s new studio heads, Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, had already made arrangements to create "multiple" films based on J.R.R Tolkien's remarkable Lord of The Rings series!
According to Variety, the new movie projects will be produced by Warner Bros.'s newly introduced WB Label, New Line Cinema. In an official statement given to the publication, Peter Jackson &ndash; director of the acclaimed and highly profitable Lord of The Rings trilogy that grossed over USD 3 billion - confirmed that no filmmakers have yet been connected with producing these new projects. Jackson appears to be in great spirits, claiming that his collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens have affirmed the corporate support of their collaboration on The Lord of the Rings franchise. They have been kept updated each step of the way. We are eager to converse with them further and gain insight into their perspective on where the franchise should go next.
CEO of Freemode, Lee Guinchard, said on the new projects, &ldquo;Following our recent acquisition of Middle-earth Enterprises, we&rsquo;re thrilled to embark on this new collaborative journey with New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures, bringing the incomparable world of J.R.R. Tolkien back to the big screen in new and exciting ways.&rdquo; De Luca and Abdy's special announcement that they are leaving MGM to join Warner Bros. is likely one of their most outstanding achievements since last year. Both have recalled that New Line had taken &ldquo;an unprecedented leap of faith to realize the incredible stories, characters and world of LOTR on the big screen &hellip; but for all the scope and detail lovingly packed into the two trilogies, the vast, complex and dazzling universe dreamed up by J.R.R. Tolkien remains largely unexplored.&rdquo;
Unfortunately, there has yet to be any insight regarding the launch of these upcoming projects. However, other entertainment news reports that The Flash will have its debut screening at CinemaCon 2023!

Warner Bros. Confirms They Are Making More 'Lord of the Rings' Movies

<h2>After complaints about actors of Color in 'The Lord of the Rings,' the original 'The Lord of The Rings' cast members defend diversity in 'The Rings of Power.'</h2>
The show's cast includes actors from various backgrounds, including British-Jamaican, South African-Iranian, and Puerto Rican.
After backlash for the actors of color in its cast, The Rings of Power's original movie trilogy cast has come to its defense.

Elijah Wood, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, and Sean Astin portrayed the hobbits Frodo Baggins, Pippin Took, Merry Brandybuck, and Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, have all expressed their support for the cast. Wood, Boyd, and Monaghan were captured together wearing a T-shirt with the words "You are all welcome here," which was written in Elvish with an illustration of various types of ears from Middle-Earth in several skin tones. Meanwhile, Astin uploaded a second photo of him in the cap with the same design, accompanied by all four cast members and tagging The Rings of Power's accounts. 50% of proceeds from the merchandise will go to a charity dedicated to people of color.
Critics argue that the racial diversity among lead actors in The Rings of Power is unfair, as it stars primarily people of color. For example, Jamaican-born Sir Lenny Henry, Puerto Rican Ismael Cruz C&oacute;rdova, and South African/Iranian Sophia Nomvete &ndash; who is also the first Black woman to play a female dwarf in Lord of the Rings. The show's cast also issued a statement defending Tolkien's multi-cultural world and an essay explaining how race and culture are integrated into Tolkien's fiction.

Original 'Lord of the Rings' Cast Defend Diversity in 'The Rings of Power'

<h2>According To <a title="Elon Musk" href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/elon-musk/">Elon Musk</a>, Tolkien Would Be "Turning In His Grave" Over <a title="Amazon's" href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/amazon/">Amazon's</a> "Rings of Power."</h2>
Elon Musk criticized Galadriel, the only "brave" character in Amazon's new streaming series, for her lack of bravery.
On Monday, Elon Musk stated that J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of "The Lord of the Rings" series, is probably rolling over in his grave due to Amazon Prime's new adaptation of the fantasy books "The Lord of The Rings: The Ring Power."

"Almost every male character so far is a coward, a jerk, or both," the Tesla CEO tweeted. "Only Galadriel is brave, smart, and nice."
Galadriel is the female lead warrior elf in Tolkien's Amazon series.
He later added, "Those who claim any criticism of Rings of Power means you're racist are outing themselves as closet racists."&nbsp;
Some Tolkien fans have complained that casting non-white actors isn't accurate to Tolkien's universe. In an essay for The Hollywood Reporter, Richard Newby countered these complaints., "The most common refrain is that Tolkien didn't include people of color in his stories. Not only is this untrue, as harfoots are described as having 'browner' skin, but Tolkien didn't often make a point to describe skin color."
Morfydd Clark, the actress who plays Galadriel in "The Lord of the Rings" movies, defended her character's depiction as more of a warrior than how she was originally written in the books.
Elon Musk spoke at GOP leader Kevin McCarthy's retreat on the same day Liz Cheney lost her primary election.
"I would say that her serenity [in "Lord of the Rings"] is hard-earned," she told Variety. "I don't think you get to that level of wisdom without going through things. She actually speaks about, with wisdom, there is a loss of innocence, which was a really good thing for me to find in the lore. Because, like, how young are you when you're still thousands of years old? So it was thinking of what innocence she lost during this time."
"The Rings of Power" is a prequel series to "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings."&nbsp;

"The Rings of Power" is both the most expensive TV series ever made and boasted Amazon's biggest premiere with more than 25 million viewers worldwide last Thursday.&nbsp;
Musk's tweets echoed similar criticisms on Twitter but also had their detractors.
"Elon Musk doesn't come to me for advice on how to fail to buy Twitter, and I don't go to him for film, TV, or literature criticism," "Good Omens," A fan asked Neil Gaiman, who has no connection to the show, about Musk's remarks on Twitter.

<h2>Several TV shows, including <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/lord-of-the-rings/">Lord of the Rings</a> to resume filming after getting shut down due to the <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/coronavirus/">Coronavirus</a></h2>
While the number of Coronavirus cases is rising across the United States, the Hollywood film industry is ready to get back to work. Scripted television shows have found ways to adapt to new normal, and many shows are reportedly heading back into production.
Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series is now filming in New Zealand. According to Deadline, production of the sho has already resumed, after having to shut down production in mid-March after filming nearly two episodes. During the hiatus, the screenwriting team started working on Season 2.
As we previously reported, <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/amazon/">Amazon’s</a> ‘<a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/lord-of-the-rings/">Lord of the Rings</a>‘ TV series is now <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/casting-call/">casting </a>background actors. According to <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/casting-calls-acting-auditions/lord-of-the-rings-casting/">recent casting calls, the show is looking for “hairy people” and actors with other character traits.</a>
Meanwhile, Cowboy Bebop, which is also filming in New Zealand, is heading back to production on September 30th. Cowboy Bebop is a forthcoming Netflix Original live-action sci-fi series based on the manga of the same name by Hajime Yatate. Alex Garcia Lopez (Daredevil) is assigned to direct the series with 12 writers hired to help create the story, including Thor Ragnorok writer Christopher L. Yost is on board.

Sweet Tooth, another Netflix series, has resumed production. Netflix’s Sweet Tooth will star Christian Convery (Legion, Descendants 3, Playing with Fire) and Nonso Anozie (Zoo, Game of Thrones).
Some productions resuming filming in the <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/casting-calls-acting-auditions/nat-geo-genius-aretha-casting/">United States, including the NatGeo series Genius: Aretha </a>is resuming production in <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/atlanta/">Atlanta</a>, Georgia. The NatGeo series centers around historical figures. NatGeo previously highlighted Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso. This new season centers around Aretha Franklin, played by Cynthia Erivo. <a href="https://deadline.com/2020/09/the-lord-of-the-rings-resumes-production-amazon-new-zealand-cowboy-bebop-netflix-dtart-of-production-1234584918/">Deadline</a> reports after shutting down in March after filming nearly 5 out of its eight episodes. It is going to try to resume filming on October 1st.
In relevant news, <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/news/coronavirus-hollywood/">Hollywood abandons filming in the U.S. due to the lack of Coronavirus tests. </a>A movie starring <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/ben-affleck/">Ben Affleck</a> was supposed to start filming in the United States. However, due to the lack of COVID-19 Coronavirus testing material and fast lab results, producers moved the filming location to Canada. Ben Affleck’s latest movie is just one of several projects leaving the U.S. for Canada, the U.K., and Australia due to the Coronavirus.

<h2><a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/amazon/">Amazon's</a> '<a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/lord-of-the-rings/">Lord of the Rings</a>' TV series is now <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/casting-call/">casting</a> background actors.</h2>
According to recent casting calls, the show is looking for "hairy people" and actors with other character traits.

The 'Lord of the Rings' prequel series is set to premiere on Amazon Prime and will film in New Zealand, just like Peter Jackson's movies. These casting calls are for people in New Zealand. So, if you're interested in appearing in the new TV series, you may need to be able to live and work in the area.

The casting call is looking for a wide range of types, but there is a major emphasis on hair, height, and character faces.
<h4>About 'Lord of the Rings':</h4>
Amazon's 'Lord of the Rings' series was announced with a five-season order and a possibility of a spinoff. It is expected to be the most expensive series of all time costing a billion dollars to produce.

Amazon's 'Lord of the Rings' series is set in the Second Age, which is a time period before 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings' movie.

One of the rumors is Amazon's 'Lord of the Rings' series will have 20 episodes in the first season, but that news has yet to be confirmed. That said, not too much information has been released.

Recently, Amazon announced the cast of the Lord of the Rings series. Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur and Nazanin Boniadi are among the show's stars. Also joining the cast is Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, and Charlie Vickers.

“After undertaking an extensive global search, we are delighted finally to reveal the first group of brilliant performers who will take part in Amazon’s ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series,” said series showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

“These exceptionally talented women and men are more than just our actors: they are the newest members of an ever-expanding creative family that is now working tirelessly to bring Middle-earth to life anew for fans and audiences worldwide.”

The show's creative team will include executive producers Lindsey Weber, Bruce Richmond, Gene Kelly and Amazon's former head of programming Sharon Tal Yguado.

Details surrounding the plot have not been released other than the fact it will explore new storylines prior to  J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Fellowship of the Ring.”

The show’s official Twitter account sent out an <a href="https://twitter.com/LOTRonPrime/status/1103656946509344768" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow noreferrer">image of a map</a> along with the two tweets: “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie,” and  “Welcome to the Second Age.” In the Tolkien mythicism, the Second Age was the period in which the Rings of Power, including Sauron’s One Ring, came into reality.
