In an interview with <a href="http://www.elle.com/culture/movies-tv/news/a37050/helen-mirren-interview/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Elle</a>, Mirren confirmed she's going to be in Fast 8 while talking about her role in the new film Eye in the Sky. "I like to be serious," said Mirren. "Of course, having said that I'm about to do Fast and Furious 8."

"But that's for the fun of it," Mirren continued. "So maybe that's what I want as well, some fun and some relevant, serious, important movies."

Mirren is mostly known for appearing in dramatic roles, having been nominated for an Academy Award four times and winning the award for Best Actress in 2006's The Queen.

"I've always rather loved driving," said Mirren of taking the Fast and the Furious role. "I said, 'I'll be in it, but only if I'm allowed to drive if I do drive in it.' But we'll see."

Mirren revealed that she was hoping to appear in the new movie in an interview with Yahoo, saying, "My great ambition is to be in a Fast and Furious movie. I so want to be a mad driver in a Fast and Furious movie. My claim to fame is I always do my own driving — I was on Top Gear, and I did [my lap] in a very good time. I keep putting it out there, and they never ask me. I’ll be in Fast and Furious 8. I have to say Vin Diesel is brilliant. I love Vin Diesel. He’s a great guy, smart — I love him. It’s partly because of him I’d like to be in one, but also the driving."

A few months later, Vin Diesel, told <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/2345432/vin-diesel-knows-how-fast-and-furious-ends/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">MTV</a>, indicated Mirren's hope could become a reality, saying, "I think everyone should do the franchise. They’ve gotta get in line behind Helen Mirren. She is on the list. Be careful what you wish for, Helen.”

No details surrounding Mirren's character have been revealed, however, it is rumored she will play the mother of one of the main characters in the movie franchise.

Helen Mirren Joins 'Fast & Furious 8'

<h2><a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/helen-mirren/">Helen Mirren</a> says women should be able to audition for male roles.</h2>
Helen Mirren is one of Hollywood best actresses' in the film industry. And what makes her special and unique is her ability to stand up for what she believes is right. In fact, she is unafraid to take a stand for women's rights. Now, the Oscar-winning actress is making headlines again for her comments on gender disparities in Hollywood, specifically the uneven ratio of roles for women.

According to recent studies, men are dominating the film industry when it comes to speaking roles and acting job opportunities. But, Mirren says the best solution to fix the issue is allowing women to audition for male roles. Mirren knows first hand this can be successful. In her latest movie&nbsp;Eye in the Sky,&nbsp;she plays an army colonel, a role originally written for a man.

Mirren told the BBC it makes her "Cross" that so many roles are given to male actors.

&#147;You look at a scene, and it&#146;s going to be all men around a table, and you think at least half of those could have been women.&#148;

&#147;It&#146;s hard to get a job as an actress,&#148; she said, &#147;let alone as a star but just a job &#150; to be a working actress it&#146;s so much more difficult than it is for men.&#148;

Mirren added that a huge part of the problem comes from so few background extras being played by women:&nbsp;&#147;The only time that there are more women on the set as extras is a swimming pool scene, and they&#146;re all in bikinis &#150; any swimming pool scene, and suddenly it&#146;s full of women.&#148;

Mirren explained that the movie's producers, Colin Firth and Gavin Hood, changed her&nbsp;Eye in the Sky&nbsp;role to a female part before offering it to her.

&#147;As opposed to saying &#145;well that&#146;s men, that&#146;s what men do in war&#146;&#133;I think Gavin very astutely understood and realised putting a women [into the role] just changed the discussion,&#148; she said.

This is not the first time this has happened. Sandra Bullock chose to seek out only male roles last year, prompting a debate over auditions in Hollywood. As a result, script writers have seen pressure from producers to change roles, including Emily Blunt's role in&nbsp;Sicario.&nbsp;In fact, Blunt's character was supposed to be played by a male actor. But, it was changed at the last minute. Thankfully, that didn't happen because Emily Blunt did an amazing job.

Hollywood is quickly changing.

Helen Mirren: Actresses Should Audition for Male Roles

<h2><a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/helen-mirren/">Helen Mirren</a> has defended the <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/oscars/">Oscars</a> against "unfair accusations that the world's most famous film ceremony is a racist institution.</h2>
Speaking to Channel 4 News, Mirren says that the Oscars failure to nominate a single actor of color has nothing to do with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

&#147;I think it&#146;s unfair to attack the Academy,&#148; she told presenter Jon Snow. &#147;It just so happened this year it went that way.&#148;

Idris Elba was widely expected to receive a nomination in the best supporting actor category for his performance in Netflix child-soldier drama&nbsp;Beasts of No Nation.&nbsp;Elba was awarded by the Screen Actors Guild at the weekend and has also received a Golden Globe nomination, but Mirren, who won the best actress Oscar in 2007 for her turn as Elizabeth II in Stephen Frears's The Queen, said too few Academy members had seen Cary Fukunaga's movie.

&#147;He [Idris] wasn&#146;t nominated because not enough people saw, or wanted to see, a film about child soldiers in Somalia or the Congo or somewhere like that,&#148; said the 70-year-old, who was promoting her role as Hollywood gossip columnist Hedda Hopper in new film Trumbo. &#147;They just couldn&#146;t face watching that movie and so not enough people saw that movie. It wasn&#146;t in the cinema for long enough.&#148;

&#147;The conversation is incredibly important,&#148; she continued. &#147;It forced the conversation.&#148;

Mirren said the issue was not which actors were being rewarded with Oscars recognition, but how to improve diversity in Hollywood so that more people from black and ethnic minority backgrounds were given opportunities within the film industry.

&#147;I&#146;m saying that the issue we need to be looking at is what happens before the film gets to the Oscars,&#148; she said. &#147;What kind of films are made, and the way in which they&#146;re cast, and the scripts &#133; So it&#146;s those things that are much more influential ultimately than who stands there with an Oscar.&#148;

It looks as though Georgia has another movie to add to their growing film industry as Helen Mirren's new movie, Leisure Seeker will film in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to Deadline, Helen Mirren and Donald Sutherland are teaming for <a id="auto-tag_the-leisure-seeker" href="http://deadline.com/tag/the-leisure-seeker/" data-tag="the-leisure-seeker">The Leisure Seeker</a>, a road movie about a retired couple who embark on an adventure in a Winnebago. The movie is based on a novel by Michael Zadoorian.
