"Divergent" by Veronica Roth Film Casting Information

Several years ago, America's biggest obsession were young adult movie adaptations. The success of Twilight and The Hunger Games led Hollywood studios to the young adult section of Barnes and Noble looking for the next YA adaptation. But jumping on the bandwagon can result in unfortunate consequences. For example, the Divergent series starring Shailene Woodley was popular but failed to match Jennifer Lawrence's billion dollar Hunger Games success.

The third movie in the Divergent trilogy, Allegiant flopped at the box office. There was supposed to be the second part of Allegiant, but due to the disappointing return on investment, producers decided to turn it into a TV movie, or a television pilot to introduce a new series.

Vanity Fair reports that Woodley was asked on the red carpet for Big Little Lies on Tuesday if she will be involved in the Divergent TV series and she said: "No, I'm not going to be on the television show."

Woodley said the same thing last September in an interview with Screenrant, stating,  “I didn’t sign up to be in a television show. Out of respect to the studio and everyone involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I’m not necessarily interested in doing a television show.”

Shailene Woodley Ditches Divergent

<h2>Lionsgate is taking their Divergent feature film and turning it into a TV series.</h2>
In an amazing movie, Lionsgate is transforming their Divergent Series from a feature film into a TV series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say the studio will reconfigure the project, called Ascendant, will become a TV movie and will then become a spinoff series with Lionsgate TV taking over the production.

Shailene Woodley starred in the first three movies, which flopped in the box office as it was supposed to become the next Hunger Games young adult franchise thriller. In fact, the last Divergent movie, Allegiant, had the worst box office opening in franchise history earning little more than $30 million dollars, which probably explains why Lionsgate is interested in selling the franchise as a TV series instead of a feature film.

Allegiant stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Jeff Daniels, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Zoë Kravitz, Maggie Q, Ray Stevenson, Daniel Dae Kim, Bill Skarsgård, Octavia Spencer and Naomi Watts. series. The dystopian fantasy adventure is directed by  Robert Schwentke and was produced by Lucy Fisher, Pouya Shabazian, and Douglas Wick and was made for a reported $110 million. However, The Hollywood Reporter, asserts that many of the actors from the original Divergent seres will be quitting the show. “They haven’t come to us to discuss deals, but if they think they can skimp on actors' options, they can think again,” said the rep of one of the co-stars told THR. In addition, talent agents close to the news outlet believe that serious negotiations will be necessary for them to keep the original cast on board.

There is no word regarding the next filming location for the Divergent TV series however, with plans on filming a fourth Divergent movie now scrapped. Atlanta's film industry may have lost one of their biggest productions yet.

Atlanta Filmed 'Divergent' is Becoming a TV Series

<h2>Lionsgate is cutting the budget for the next movie in the Divergent franchise.</h2>
After Allegiant flopped in the box office, Lionsgate is planning on cutting the budget for the final movie in the <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/lionsgate-slash-ascendant-budget-as-877141?utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=THR%20Breaking%20News_now_2016-03-21%2013:38:22_ehayden&amp;utm_term=hollywoodreporter_breakingnews">Divergent series</a>, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

From The Hollywood Reporter:
“The budget for the next one will be reduced [compared to the previous film],” a well-placed production source tells The Hollywood Reporter. “They haven’t said by how much,” the source adds, but it is expected several millions of dollars will be trimmed at the very least.
Sources estimate Allegiant’s budget at $110 million. The upcoming picture is still being written and no final budget has yet been determined.
<a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/allegiant/">Allegiant</a> suffered a major box office blow as the movie had a disappointing box office debut.

The Atlanta filmed Allegiant, the third of four teen sci-fi movies in Lionsgate’s The Divergent Series, earned a little over $30 million during the opening weekend.

That is well under the debut’s of 2014’s Divergent ($54.6 million) and last year’s “Insurgent” ($52.2 million).

The original film took in $22.7 million on its first Friday, the sequel $21.1 million while, Allegiant only earned $11.9 million on Friday.

According to The Wrap, bad reviews and fatigue with both the young adult genre and the franchise are affecting Allegiant, the first of two movies based on the final book in the Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth. Audiences gave the movie a “B” CinemaScore. That’s better than the critics, who have it at a dismal 10 percent positive on Rotten Tomatoes.

There are no reports as to how the budget cuts will affect Atlanta's film industry. But, this news comes as Lionsgate's stock price fell 4% after the news was released of the poor box office numbers.

Allegiant's underperformance follows several box office flops for the movie studio. Recently, Gods of Egypt, The Last Witch Hunter and Mortdecai all flopped in the box office and according to sources close to The Hollywood Reporter, investors are nervous about the future of the movie studio and their history of producing Young Adult film adaptations. Apparently, the studio has been unable to repeat the blockbuster success of the Twilight and The Hunger Games film franchises.

<h2>Love to fight?&nbsp;'DIVERGENT: Ascendant' is looking for trained fighters in Atlanta, Georgia.</h2>
CL Casting is currently looking for experienced Judo wrestlers and martial arts coaches for featured roles in the new DIVERGENT movie&nbsp;Ascendant&nbsp;now filming in Atlanta, Georgia. Casting directors are looking for "experienced Judo Wrestlers that are ready to join us on the mats!!" IN addiiton producers are looking for "male boxing or ring fighter coaches ages 30-50 to be guiding our wrestlers while they are on the mats. YOU MUST MUST MUST have real experience with fighting or coaching!"

Casting directors are also hiring stand-ins to work on the upcoming feature film.
