The Cannes Film Festival brings some of the biggest stars from all around the world. But, you would assume all of the movie stars walk on two legs. According to reports, one of the most prestigious awards, Palme D'or award, for best movie of the festival went to Palm Dog, for best acting performance by a dog in a movie.

Sadly, this year's award was a posthumous one, with the honor going to the late, legendary Nellie the bulldog.

Nellie started her life as a rescue dog, and her breakout role as Marvin, a male dog in the movie Paterson. Other notable dogs from the festival include a dalmatian in In Bed With Victoria and a three-legged mutt in I, Daniel Blake. Watch Nellie's performance alongside Adam Driver in director Jim Jarmusch's crowd-favorite Paterson, which will be released by Amazon later this year.

This Bulldog Wins Most Prestigious Acting Award in the World

<h2>Ryan Reynolds is not having a good time at the Cannes film festival.</h2>
The actor recently attended the festival for his latest movie "The Captive" at the Cannes film festival.

The audience found the movie to be so bad that many people actually booed. The movie was received so poorly that Ryan Reynolds did not even show up for the film's after party.

According to <a href="http://wonderwall.msn.com/movies/ryan-reynolds-skips-afterparty-after-getting-booed-at-cannes-blake-lively-comforts-1814982.story?ocid=answw11" target="_blank">reports</a>,  "Ryan definitely seemed a little on edge. Wouldn't be surprised if he skipped out on his party because the film is getting terrible reviews." Reynolds "seemed preoccupied on his cell phone" while the duo dined at the restaurant but was still "really affectionate" with his wife Blake Lively.

"[It] looked like Blake was trying to cheer him up a few times … she rubbed his arm like she was consoling him and kept whispering in his ear,” the source continues. "At one point, Ryan smiled … and leaned into her for a kiss on the lips."

"The Captive" was reviewed by Variety and described as "a ludicrous abduction thriller that finds a once-great filmmaker slipping into previously entered realms of self-parody."

The Captive, formerly titled Queen of the Night is a <a class="mw-redirect" style="color: #0b0080;" title="Thriller film" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thriller_film">thriller film</a> directed by <a style="color: #0b0080;" title="Atom Egoyan" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atom_Egoyan">Atom Egoyan</a> and co-written with David Fraser. The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Scott Speedman, Rosario Dawson, Mireille Enos, Kevin Durand and Alexia Fast.

The Captive centers on 8 years after the disappearance of a little girl, but there is evidence that shows that she's still alive. Police, parents and Cassandra herself, will try to unravel the mystery of her disappearance.

The movie is reminiscent of the great feature film Prisoners starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal.

The Cannes Film Festival is self described as "to draw attention to and raise the profile of films with the aim of contributing towards the development of cinema, boosting the film industry worldwide and celebrating cinema at an international level."

For Ryan Reynolds The Captive did just that but for all the wrong reasons.

We are pleased to announce that HBO and The Weeknd's highly-anticipated drama series, The Idol, has been chosen as an Official Selection Out of Competition at the 2023 Festival de Cannes.
The Cannes Delegate General, Thierry Fr&eacute;maux, confirmed that award-winning artist The Weeknd would attend this year's festival. He highlighted that since he is a regular patron of the festival, it has become a tradition for him to personally visit to watch and assess the entries competing at Cannes. In addition, his attendance comes as no surprise because he was known to have previously visited covertly on numerous occasions.
How many episodes will debut at the Cannes Film Festival is unknown.
The Idol is a star-studded production that features The Weeknd as Tedros and Lily-Rose Depp as Jocelyn. Dan Levy, Da&rsquo;Vine Joy Randolph, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Jane Adams, Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, Ramsey Suzanna Son, and Hank Azaria have parts in the film. &ldquo;After a nervous breakdown derailed Jocelyn&rsquo;s (Lily-Rose Depp) last tour, she&rsquo;s determined to claim her rightful status as the greatest and sexiest pop star in America. HBO and The Weeknd's 'The Idol' Is Premiering at Cannes 2023

<h2>Cannes Film Festival attendees may be excited to witness The Weeknd's 'The Idol' <a title="HBO" href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/tag/hbo/">HBO</a> series debut, a show that promises to be an incredible experience for all involved.</h2>
It is rumored that The Weeknd's much-anticipated HBO series, The Idol, will debut at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
Reliable sources have informed Variety that negotiations are underway, but nothing is yet set in stone. Despite the current uncertainty, this would not be the first time a TV series has had its inaugural screening at Cannes; Twin Peaks: The Return and Top of the Lake: China Doll both premiered here in recent years. HBO has stayed silent on the speculation, but an earlier report indicated that the show would debut in June 2023.
Tedros, the proprietor of a Los Angeles nightclub and the covert leader of a cult, is mesmerizingly portrayed by The Weeknd in The Idol. Lily-Rose Depp brings to life Jocelyn - an up-and-coming singer under Tedros' tutelage &ndash; who will traverse through the extreme highs and lows that come with navigating fame in the complex music industry. In addition to The Weeknd and Depp, BLACKPINK's Jennie, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Dan Levy, Hank Azaria, and others have joined the cast. Furthermore, Nico Hiraga and Tyson Ritter will be recurring characters in this production.

The film, &lsquo;Not Without Hope&rsquo; is about an incident that took place on the water where one man was left to survive. The main character (Miles Teller) finds himself in this situation after his entire family died during a boating tragedy - with only him left alive! This movie will be executive produced by Russell Wilson and Ciara who have won multiple awards for their work together including Grammy Awards.
The film is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Nick Schuyler and Jere Longman, from a screenplay written by E. Nicholas Mariani. It has been directed by Rupert Wainwright (Stigmata) with distribution through Highland Film Group's international sales team at Cannes' upcoming virtual market - where CAA Media Finance will handle US rights exclusively for now.
This true story, &lsquo;Not Without Hope&rsquo; will see Teller &mdash; who broke out in Whiplash and stars next to Will Bleakley for Top Gun: Maverick &mdash; play Schuyler. Along with three other friends Marquis Cooper (NFL player), Corey Smith (college athlete), and their fishing crew member Amy Parisi; they set off on a day trip from Clearwater, Florida 70 miles out at sea when suddenly severe storms hit the crew.
Miles Alexander Teller is an American actor and musician. Born in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, and an alumnus of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, he appeared in several off-Broadway productions before making his film debut with 'Rabbit Hole' (2010). His breakout role was as Peter Hayes in the sleeper hit 'The Spectacular Now' (2013), and he has since appeared in the 'Divergent' franchise, 'Project X' (2012), 'That Awkward Moment' (2014), 'Get a Job' (2016), 'War Dogs' (2016), 'Bleed for This' (2016) and 'Only the Brave' (2017). Teller also starred as Andrew Neiman in Damien Chazelle's 'Whiplash' (2014), for which he was nominated for the Gotham Independent Film Award for Best Actor.&nbsp;
Teller's other notable films include 'Footloose' (2011), '21 &amp; Over' (2013), 'Two Night Stand' (2014), 'Thank You for Your Service' (2017), 'Granite Mountain' (2017), and 'Shot Caller' (2017).&nbsp;

'Not Without Hope' Starring Miles Teller is Headed to Cannes

<h2 class="p1">The 73rd <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/tag/cannes-film-festival/">Cannes Film Festival</a> is officially canceled.</h2>
Due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, the legendary film festival is no longer happening. Festival director Thierry Frémaux confirmed the news to <a href="https://www.screendaily.com/interviews/thierry-fremaux-talks-cannes-2020-official-selection-plans-exclusive/5149699.article">Screen Daily</a>, “Under the circumstances, a physical edition of Cannes 2020 is hard to envisage, so we’ll have to do something different. A ‘festival’ is a collective party, a spectacle that brings together an audience in a given location, in this case on the Croisette, in the presence of thousands of people. Everyone understands that that’s impossible this year.” He continued, “The Cannes Film Festival, which by its nature is a globalized institution, can’t escape being a victim in the same way as the rest of human activities.”
Frémaux added the official film selections will be announced in June but will be restricted to titles, which are “scheduled to be released theatrically between now and spring 2021.”
Organizers will start to plan events in selected theaters as “Cannes hors les murs”, which means Cannes outside the walls”. In addition, if social distancing rules come to an end, the film festival may partner with other film festivals this year. 
“We’ll go to Toronto, Deauville, Angoulême, San Sebastian, New York, Busan in Korea, and even the Lumière festival in Lyon, which is a festival of contemporary and classical cinema, which will host numerous films,” Frémaux, who also works at Lumière, added. “And with Venice, we want to go even further and present films together.”
Cannes was set to take place this May 12 to May 23. However, in late March, organizers announced its postponement to the end of June to early July. “As soon as the development of the French and international health situation will allow us to assess the real possibility, we will make our decision known, in accordance with our ongoing consultation with the French Government and Cannes’ City Hall as well as with the Festival’s Board Members, Film industry professionals and all the partners of the event,” the festival first announced. Currently, over 26,000 people have died from the Coronavirus in France.
In other news, <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/news/netflix-coronavirus/">Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos is creating a plan to reopen Hollywood’s film industry after the Coronavirus Pandemic.</a>
The Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic has shut down productions across the world. During the golden era of streaming and entertainment, the virus shut down all productions. Now, Netflix’s CEO is working on the way to get production back to work as safely as possible.
“While we will need to change this process — in some cases dramatically — to ensure the safety of cast and crew during this pandemic, the closed nature of sets also offers some advantages,” Sarandos <a href="https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2020-05-04/film-and-television-production-can-resume-in-a-covid-19-world">wrote Monday</a> in an op-ed published in the Los Angeles Times. “Not least that they provide a relatively controlled environment, where we can track who comes and goes.”

Coronavirus: Cannes Film Festival 2020 is Officially Canceled

Hollywood actress Jessica Chastain found the portrayal of women in movies competing at the Cannes Film Festival as &#147;disturbing&#148;.
Chastain served as a member of the jury during the 70th annual Film Festival alongside Hollywood actor Will Smith and jury president Pedro Almodovar.
The jury&#146;s job was to watch movies in the official competition and decide which would win the coveted award for best fit. At the closing press conference of the festival, Jessica admitted that she was not impressed with how women were being portrayed in the film she saw. Moreover, Jessica argued that the industry needs more female storytellers to create more authentic female characters.
&#147;This is the first time I&#146;ve watched 20 films in 10 days, and I love movies and the one thing I really took away from this experience is how the world views women from the female characters I saw represented and it was quite disturbing to me, to be honest," she said.

"I do hope that when we include more female storytellers, we will have more of the women that I recognize in my day-to-day life," she continued. "Ones that are proactive, that have their own agencies, don&#146;t just react to the men around them. They have their own point-of-view.&#148;
The 70th Cannes Film Festival ended on Sunday when Sofia Coppola was named the Best Director for the movie The Beguiled. She has become the second woman to win the award since 1961.
