In IMAX, Steven Spielberg's 'Jaws' and 'E.T.' Are Returning to Theaters
3D versions of 'Jaws' will also be released.
According to Universal Pictures, E.T. The extra-terrestrial and Jaws are returning to theaters in 2018, marking the first time either film has been shown on IMAX® screens. THE E.T. EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL will be released on IMAX screens in the United States beginning August 12 to commemorate the film's 40th anniversary. In contrast, Jaws will be available in IMAX 3D and RealD 3D starting September 2.
On June 10, almost four decades since E.T. first premiered, IMAX will debut the trailer for E.T., which is scheduled to premiere exclusively at screenings of Jurassic World: Dominion on June 10, 2018. The two legendary Spielberg films were both blockbusters in their eras, winning seven Academy Awards.
"No filmmaker, it's fair to say, has had a greater or more enduring impact on American cinema or has created more indelible cinematic memories for tens of billions of people worldwide," said Jim Orr, president of domestic theatrical distribution for Universal Pictures in a press release. "We couldn't think of a perfect way to celebrate the anniversary of E.T. and the first Universal-Spielberg summer blockbuster, Jaws, than to allow audiences to experience these films in a way they've never been able to before."
Look for the movies to premiere in select theaters throughout the United States this summer and fall.
