HBO True Detective Season 2 Casting Call Revealed

Date:

HBO shares details on Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell’s True Detective Season 2 characters.

HBO has recently revealed the details on Vince Vaughn and Collin Farrell’s True Detective Season 2 characters.

True Detective has a history of surprising people with casting announcements. In Season 1, the world was surprised to see the big names like Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey making the move to a brand new TV series.

Despite this, wee all knew they were going to do a great job due to their on-screen chemistry. For Season 2, however, HBO chose a set of big screen actors.

We already knew HBO took a different approach by casting Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn as the leads, but now we have confirmations and some character descriptions.

Joining Farrell and Vaughn will be Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, and Kelly Reilly. Again, these are quite widely known castings, but HBO has now confirmed them via a press statement to The Playlist.

Including in the statement was also a brief logline, and some character biographies.

Logline:

Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

The series is created and written by Nic Pizzolatto. Justin Lin will direct the first two episodes.

Previously announced cast:

Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.

Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.

Newly added cast:

Rachel McAdams as Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves.

Taylor Kitsch as Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol, running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened.

Kelly Reilly as Jordan, Frank Semyon’s wife, a former D-list actress who is a full partner in his enterprises and ambitions.

I must admit, I was surprised when I saw some of these names first announced in relation to True Detective. Having said that, I have faith in the casting directors to deliver another amazing season and it will definitely be interesting to see if Farrell, Vaughn, and Kitsch can show a bit more range than we usually get out of them and their history of romantic comedies.
