Now, according to reports, Soul Food 2
is coming soon to theaters with the original cast.
Fox 2000 has announced plans for a sequel to the hugely popular 1997 movie Soul Food. Soul Food 2
will feature George Tillman Jr, the original director of the Soul Food
franchise. Tillman Jr. will work alongside Nathan Skulnik to cultivate an update to the wildly popular drama.
The 1997 drama followed the story of an African American family whose tradition of eating a big meal every Sunday helped to keep their family together. However, their bonds are broken following the death of the family's mother.
The sequel will follow the next generation of the family as they struggle through the modern era of technology, cell phones, and social media, which they worry will create a distance between the family. The family is forced to find a balance between the modern world and the old traditions that kept their family together for so many ears.
Vanessa Williams, Vivica A. Fox, Nia Long and Mekhi Phifer starred in the original movie and are expected to return for the sequel.
