Scooter Braun discusses managing Kanye West in an eye-opening interview.
While most people know Scooter Braun for discovering Justin Bieber, Scooter Braun’s resume includes founding management firms such as SB Projects, managing 10 music artists, producing movies and being involved in several major start ups such as Uber and Spotify as well as hit CBS TV series Scorpion. Last month, also announced that he will start managing Kanye West. An announcement that shocked Justin Bieber and Kanye fans across the globe.
But, in a conversation with Charlie Rose, the Hollywood manager described his experiences with Justin Bieber since he discovered him on YouTube in 2008 as well as working with Kanye after he called him to ask for management services last year. Braun understands his job is to execute Kanye’s vision in music as well as fashion. And Braun firmly believes that Kanye is just misunderstood. “A lot of people have an assumption that he might be selfish or arrogant. The guy who I’ve gotten to know—who I am learning to translate to others—is someone who literally got himself in financial trouble because he would give the shirt off his back to help someone,” he says. “I want to help take his journey to where he wants to go.”
