Redbox Raising Prices in December

Date:

Redbox is raising all of their prices for movies and games in the next few weeks.

Movie and Game rental service Redbox has announced that they ar arising prices for games, DVDs, and Blu-Ray discs in the US. Under the new pricing standards, the cost of DVDs will go up by 30 cents to $1.50, Blu-Rays will increase another 50 cents at $2, and games rental prices will go up a full dollar to $3.

Most of the price changes will take effect on December 2, 2014 but, the game price increase will not happen until January 6, 2015. Redbox isn’t staying away from the fact that the number of rentals will probably decrease due to the increase in costs. But, Redbox argues that the higher profits per rental along with some behind-the-scenes cost cutting will help it “offset future declines in the physical rental market.”

The company also points that actual costs may increase, decrease, or stay the same depending upon the location. So customers should pay attention to their local pricing or check out the Redbox app or website. Both Netflix and Amazon recently raised their prices in the past year, which shows that rise of inflation in streaming and DVD rentals.
