Matthew McConaughey says he wants to do a third season of True Detective

The HBO original series that had critics, fans and actors praising Matthew McConaughey’s acting True Detective’s writing had a very disappointing second season. However, after taking a break from the HBO TV series to film Free State of Jones, McConaughey is interested in bringing his character Rust Cohle back for a third season.

“I miss Rust Cohle, man,” McConaughey said on the Rich Eisen Showthis Wednesday. “I miss watching him on Sunday nights.”

McConaughey added, “It would have to be the right context, the right way,” McConaughey told Eisen. “That thing—when I read [the original script] I knew in 20 minutes if I can play this guy, Rustin Cohle, I’m in.”

Matthew McConaughey revealed that he loved playing Rust Cohle in True Detective. “I was a happy man when I made that for six months, because I was on my own island,” the Oscar winner said. “Luckily my wife put up with me.”

This is not the first time Matthew McConaughey said he was interested in returning to the HBO series. In a 2014 interview with Deadline, Matthew McConaughey revealed his interest in the hit TV series HBO’s ‘True Detective‘ when casting directors were casting the show’s second season’s cast.

I liked True Detective, the whole series and the experience of making it, so much that I’d be open to doing another one now. At the time, I was looking at six months and not beyond that. I don’t know of a feature film I’d sign for where I’m going to say, “If this works, you’ve got me whenever you want me for the next three years.” (Via)

The first season was amazing. It was so good that A-list actors stopped making movies to star in a TV series. In fact, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Colin Farrell returned to the small screen to star in the HBO series. However, the show’s second season didn’t do very well among critics. And it never lived up to the show’s first season.
