Madame Web Sets a Release Date

The wait is over. It looks like we’ll finally see the eponymous web-slinging superheroine, Madame Web on-screen in an upcoming film.

When can we watch it?

Sony is putting the screws on their Marvel rivals with a new Spider-Man movie that will be released on July, 7 2023.

Who’s in it?

According to Deadline, Dakota Johnson has signed up for this one and she’d be playing a character named “Madame Web.” That choice might seem surprising—and incredibly intriguing.

This film, yet another addition to Sony’s growing superhero universe franchise has scriptwriter Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless onboard as well director S.J Clarkson who also helmed this year’s hit Venom and Morbius.

Other cast members include Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria) in an undisclosed role, Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), and Isabela Merced.

What’s the plot?

We don’t know for sure what the plot will be, but here’s what we can expect from the comic books: The elderly, blind woman with myasthenia gravis known as Cassandra “Madame Web” Webb has never faced off against any villains in her time adventuring. She is typically found supporting Spider-Man using clairvoyance and makes an appearance at various points throughout the character’s history; most notably being a long-lasting figure for him since the early ’80s.

Sony has big plans for the character, but it’s not clear what those are. Deadline notes that “sources have stressed” there is a chance this project could turn into something else – like maybe an origin story about how one becomes psychic?

‘Madam Web’ Casting Information

According to IMDB, Sarah Finn is the casting director behind the “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” movie. She was the casting director behind many Disney movies, including “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3,” “The Lion King” and “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”

Sarah Finn Casting was recently at the 30th Annual Artios Award in Los Angeles. Marvel’s lead casting director shared what she looks for in an actor before every audition. It’s called “star quality.”

The upcoming movie is big; casting directors primarily contact actors to work on the film through talent agencies.
