The upcoming sci-fi novel turned feature film, "Brilliance" is having a rough start. Producers are having a hard time sealing the deal.
Three actors have bailed out of the movie which is expected to film in a few weeks. Previously,
Russell Crowe was set to star in the upcoming feature film. But, Crowe would later change his mind. Then, Will Smith was attached to the feature film. Producers posted a
Nationwide Casting Call seeking child actors to play Smith's kid in the movie. Then at the last minute
Will Smith decided to work on another feature film. Then, it was reported by Deadline that
Jared Leto will take
Will Smith's place. But, it is now reported that Leto will not be joining the cast and crew.
After winning the
Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor,
Jared Leto has been relatively quiet and highly selective for his next feature film. But, he has a repuation for choosing his projects carefully and rarely taking big studio films. In fact
Dallas Buyers Club was the first movie he appeared in since 2007. It is quite possible that Leto did not like the look of the movie and decided on finding another movie.
Brilliance centers on a world where a rare set of people are born with extraordinary abilities and are called “brilliants.” The movie revolves around a federal agent with great hunting gifts who is drafted to track down a terrorist, another brilliant who is planning to start a civil war.
According to
Cinema Blend, Marvel Studio's is working on the upcoming feature film,
Doctor Strange, and it is believed that Leto was on the short list of actors that were interested in playing the lead role. So it is possible that Leto chose to work on a
Marvel Studio's production rather than
Brilliance.
