HBO Max Announces J.J. Abrams ‘Duster Series’ is Coming Soon

Date:

HBO Max is thrilled to announce that J.J. Abrams ‘Duster Series has been greenlighted and will be coming soon!

Prepare for a thrilling adventure as the beloved filmmaker brings his newest work to life on the streaming service. Don’t miss your chance to see this exciting new series from one of Hollywood’s most talented directors.

J.J. Abrams and HBO Max have teamed up to bring a captivating series to the small screen!

Abrams and LaToya Morgan have collaborated yet again to create Duster, a show set in the 1970s that stars Rachel Hilson (Love, Victor, This Is Us) and Josh Holloway – who once worked with Abrams on Lost. The streamer has recently picked up this new masterpiece for viewers to enjoy!

Bad Robot, the company which belongs to Abrams, inked an incredible nine-figure film and TV deal with WarnerMedia (now Warner Bros. Discovery) back in 2019-a groundbreaking contract that led to Duster being their first series produced. Announced in April 2020, Duster was one of the remarkable projects Bad Robot unveiled for HBO Max. Alongside it were The Shining spin-off Overlook and Justice League Dark project, significantly contributing to its success. Bad Robot sought other potential buyers for Overlook and ultimately abandoned it and Abrams’ long-developing sci-fi series Demimonde. The latter’s budget was estimated at a staggering $200 million, which caused alarm and eventually led to its cancellation.

Step into 1972 in the Southwest with Duster, a thrilling story of Hilson’s quest to become the first Black female FBI agent. With her gutsy partner-in-crime Holloway by her side, they join forces against an up-and-coming criminal organization. Join them on their bold mission as they fight for justice! In addition to the talented cast, this production features Keith David, Sydney Elisabeth, Greg Grunberg, Camille Guaty, Asivak Koostachin, Adriana Aluna Martinez, and Benjamin Charles Watson.

“Duster is an amalgam of all my favorite things — high-octane storytelling with deep characters and so much heart,” said Morgan. “It’s a dream project, and I’m supremely grateful to all the folks at Warner Bros. and HBO Max for believing in this show. And I couldn’t have asked for a better partner in crime than J.J. to build this incredible world.”

Added Abrams, “LaToya and I are thrilled at the chance to bring the wild, wily and wacky world of Duster to life, especially with this exceptional cast, crew, and network.”

The debut season of the series will feature eight action-packed episodes, with Abrams and Morgan having written the first two. Steph Green (famed for Watchmen and The Americans) is the director. Abrams and Morgan of TinkerToy Productions (which has an overall deal with Warner Bros. TV) executive produce alongside Bad Robot’s Rachel Rusch Rich; Green is an EP on the first two episodes.

“We are delighted to bring this high-voltage crime caper from the brilliant minds of J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan to the HBO Max audience,” proclaimed Sarah Aubrey, the Head of Original Content at HBO Max. “This show has all the elements of a great Max Original, with propulsive storytelling, fantastic characters, and some truly bad-ass car chases.”

Represented by CAA and Jackoway Auste, Abrams is connected with the best of Hollywood; Morgan has Eclipse Law as their legal counsel; Green’s representation includes UTA, Entertainment 360, and Johnson Shapiro; Hilson partners successfully with Neon Kite, CAA, and Goodman Genow; Holloway, by UTA; David, Artists + Reps, Silver J Management, and Meyer and Downs; Elisabeth, by Authentic Talent and Literary Management and Gang Tyre; Grunberg, by manager Susan Calogerakis, Paradigm, and Jackoway Austen; Guaty, by APA, Impression Entertainment and Brecheen Feldman; Koostachin, by Characters Talent Agency; Martinez, by Isabel Echeverry at Kontakto; and Watson, by A3 Artists Agency, Luber Roklin Entertainment and Play Management motivated by this brilliant content.
