FX’s ‘Atlanta’ Season 2 Starts Filming Next Month

Date:

FX’s Atlanta to film in Atlanta this September.

Hollywood Reporter interviewed “Atlanta” creator and star Donald Glover and revealed that season two begins production in September 2017.

Currently, the show’s star and creator, Donald Glover, is now in London filming the Star Wars: Han Solo spinoff. Despite, the Star Wars movie losing their directors, it appears as though filming for the production should wrap up by the end of the summer.

Written by and starring Glover, who himself grew up in the titular city, FX’s Atlanta follows two cousins on their way up through the Atlanta rap scene whose opposing views on art versus commerce, success and race will make their quest anything but easy. Glover will also act as the show’s executive producer, along with Paul Simms (Girls, Flight of the Conchords), and Dianne McGunigle.

The show received two Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy for Glover.

Previously, casting company Catrett Casting handled the background extras casting for the production and according to IMDB, Feldstein and Paris handled the speaking role casting for the TV series.

Atlanta has received widespread acclaim from television critics. Based on the first four episodes, the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes gives the first season an approval rating of 100%, based on 61 reviews, with an average rating of 8.9/10. The site’s critical consensus reads: “Ambitious and refreshing, Atlanta offers a unique vehicle for star and series creator Donald Glover’s eccentric brand of humor—as well as a number of timely, trenchant observations.”

David Wiegand of the San Francisco Chronicle gave it a highly positive review, writing: “The scripts for the four episodes made available to critics are as richly nuanced as anything you’ll see on TV or, to be sure, in a movie theater. You will not only know these characters after only one episode, you’ll be hooked on them, as well. In so many areas, Atlanta sets the bar exceptionally high.”
