Walking Dead’s Eugene Reveals The Strangest Fan He’s Ever Met

Date:

The Walking Dead’s Eugene (Josh McDermitt) reveals spoilers, hints and the craziest fan he has ever met.

The Walking Dead returns for a sixth season on Sunday with a special hour and a half episode. One of the cast members returning to the series include Josh McDermitt, who plays the mullet-wearing Dr. Eugene Porter.

Avid fans of the show may have never forgiven Dr. Eugene for claiming he could save the world from the zombie apocalypse with a secret cure, only to tell others that he was lying.

According to a recent interview with NYPost, fans of the show frequently curse him out as he walks through the streets. “I will be walking in the streets and people will shout out to me ‘Liar!’ says McDermitt. “But then I would say, ‘Hey, if Eugene had the cure, your favorite show would be over — so be glad that it was all a lie.’

McDermitt also shares some inside clues and hints into the character of Dr. Eugene Porter saying, “Eugene was first hated by fans and seen as weak, but he’s really smart and his only means of survival was to lie,” says McDermitt. “It doesn’t justify what he did, but he gave Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Rosita (Christian Serratos) reasons to live.

Despite revealing the fact that he is probably one of the most hated characters on The Walking Dead, McDermitt revealed he can’t say too much about the series. “I can’t give too much away, but you’re guaranteed to yell at the television screen,” he says of Sunday night’s season opener. “It’s great to read the script to see how the show is being reinvented — and seeing the bar raised.”

But, one of the most interesting parts of the interview include some of the strangest things fans have requested from the Walking Dead actor, including biting his hair.

“One fan wanted to bite my hair and put it in their mouth!” he says. “And I was like, ‘That’s disgusting!’ I just washed [my hair] in grime and, more importantly, I don’t know where your mouth has been.’

“But since the show I now have a mullet in real life and I get spotted everywhere I go,” he says. “There’s no escaping it.”
