Is This the End of Guns on ‘The Walking Dead’?

Is this the end of guns on The Walking Dead? TWD’s props master reveals that resources on are running out in Alexandria.

Living in a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies, you need to be cautious with your resources. That means, the crew in Alexandria may be in a tight pickle if things continue to get worse for Rick and the gang. And they will get worse.

However, it’s a simple fact that their ammunition cannot last forever, and according to the show’s property master and weapons expert John Sanders, the team is going to have to get used to a life without firearms. Sanders told Tech Insider: “As the story continues, we’re going to see a lot more transfer to more melee weapons. Bullets are a finite instrument … and we need to make sure that each character can only use so many and that they’re thinking about it.”

“As the story continues, we’re going to see a lot more transfer to more melee weapons. Bullets are a finite instrument … and we need to make sure that each character can only use so many and that they’re thinking about it.”

Sanders revealed that the writers want to show The Walking Dead how the remaining people will survive without the abundant supply of bullets. He continued: “Bullets [will] start to become really valuable. And you certainly wouldn’t just spray bullets at something if you’re not hitting something. So, I expect we’ll probably move more and more away from the machine guns.”

We have already seen some early signs that people are working with the resources that do not include guns and focusing on swords and sticks. As time passes in TWD world, the survivors are going to have to start using their imagination. Sanders concluded:

“You’ve got to start to regulate how many and when you use [guns]. You see the characters talk about needing to preserve ammo a number of times. So we start looking at the new weapons, which — you know we’ve seen the katana before, the stick from Morgan’s character and we constantly get into the knife thing.”

It’s highly like that these new weapons will include traps and spikes, designed to keep walkers away without drawing attention to yourself with firearms. From what we’ve seen so far, the traps are just as effective, gruesome and visually exciting. But, those are not the only tricks the gang has used so far. Wearing zombie guts to mask their scent and blend in with the rest of the walkers, smashing a walker’s head in a car trunk, and biting a man’s throat out to survive was always pretty exciting. There’s certainly no shortage of innovative ways to conserve ammunition.
