Ellen Pompeo's Reason for Never Quitting Grey's Anatomy is Shocking

Ellen Pompeo reveals why she never quit Grey's Anatomy.

Ellen Pompeo is one of Hollywood's biggest and highest paid TV stars. But, in a recent interview with PeopleStyle, Pompeo revealed that her only reason why she is still on the show is because she thinks she's to old to work elsewhere. “My decision to stay on Grey’s was based solely on age,” Pompeo said. “At 33, I was wise enough to know my clock was already ticking in Hollywood.” Pompeo says she got a "super late start" acting, landing her first major role in her mid-20s and she admits that if she'd been younger, “I probably would have done my time, then gone out to search for other things.” But, she was aware of how challenging it would be "to find other roles in my late 30s and early 40s.”" And Pompeo is unfortunately right. In January 2016, researchers reported that men speak more often than women in Disney’s princess films so, researchers decided to dig deeper into Hollywood and figure how many speaking lines do men get versus women and the results were surprising. Frozen, for instance, gave more than half the lines to male characters. In addition, it’s interesting to highlight that men and women have similar number of speaking lines up to age 30, but after that there’s a huge separation and much less opportunity for female actors. While there are some exceptions such as Judi Dench, and Maggie Smith, a large majority of actresses’ careers end at the young age of 30. Pompeo admitted that she has no regrets. “I thought, ‘Why would I leave something that is super successful and pays me great to search the landscape?’ I decided that I would stay on Grey’s and be grateful and try to ride it out for as long as I could. And I am very happy that I made the decision to stay. It’s only gotten better with time.” Via EW Related: What do you think? Share with us your thoughts in the comments below.
