Donald Glover is Considering Appearing in “Community” Movie

Date:

Donald Glover hasn’t ruled out the possibility of appearing in a “Community” movie.

As Dan Harmon stated, there is a good chance that Donald Glover will still be part of the recently announced Community film.

At Variety’s Business Managers Breakfast, the creator spoke to Michael Schneider about how important it was to have Glover, who played Troy from seasons one through five, be part of the movie. “For lack of a better word, there was a ball fumbled… [Glover] is down to clown,” Harmon said, although he did not confirm how far they are into the negotiations. “Man, I would not want to think about making [the movie] without Donald.”

Harmon discussed the decision to work with either Amazon or Peacock and noted that the latter has always supported marketing the movie. “Is it smart as a creative to go with the place that you think is more solvent? That’s not how a creative should think, you’re supposed to go with your passion, and ultimately, that is what we did,” he explained. “We can’t control the marketplace, we can’t control Peacock’s future, so we should ignore that, pretend that all things are equal, and go with the thing that makes emotional sense.”

So far, only Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, and Jim Rash from the original cast of Community have been confirmed to return for the movie; Yvette Nicole Brown, Glover, and Chevy Chase are the only ones not yet given the green light.

Donald Glover is an American actor, writer, director, comedian, and musician. He is best known for his role as Troy Barnes on the NBC comedy series Community and for his work as a writer on the FX comedy series Atlanta. He has also released three albums under the stage name Childish Gambino.

Glover was born in Edwards Air Force Base, California, and raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with a degree in Dramatic Writing in 2006.

Glover has appeared in films such as The Martian (2015), Magic Mike XXL (2015), and Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).

Glover released his first album, Camp, as a musician in 2011. He has since released two more albums, Because the Internet in 2013 and “Awaken, My Love!” in 2016. His singles “3005” and “Redbone” have both been certified platinum by the RIAA.

In 2018, Glover won a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Atlanta. He also won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for his song “Redbone”.
