Daniel Radcliffe Reveals If He Will Return to Harry Potter

Date:

Daniel Radcliffe is a long way off from reprising his role as Harry Potter.

For the time being, the actor of The Lost City is satisfied with keeping the specs and scar in retirement.

Although he may be ready to don a permed wig and a classic 1980s mustache for the Weird Al biopic, Daniel Radcliffe will not be re-applying that lightning bolt scar or reprising his role as The Boy Who Lived any time soon.

Radcliffe tells The New York Times that he will not return to the Wizarding World shortly, even though he is filming his next romantic comedy adventure film, The Lost City. When asked about his and Tatum’s roles in the forthcoming rom-com adventure drama, Radcliffe responded that it isn’t something on the cards for him right now.

“I think the Harry Potter films are done. I’m done playing that character,” Radcliffe told The New York Times. “I don’t think I could go back to being a wizard now.”

“This isn’t the answer that anybody’s going to want, but I think I was so able to go back and enjoy it because it’s not a part of my day-to-day life anymore,” says Radcliffe. “I’m getting to a point where I feel like I made it out of ‘Potter’ OK, and I’m happy with where I am now, and to go back would be such a massive change to my life.”

However, the Miracle Workers star does leave open the option of returning as Harry Potter, albeit with a few decades of leeway.

“I’m never going to say never, but the Star Wars guys had like 30, 40 years before they went back,” Radcliffe explains. “For me, it’s only been 10. It’s not something I’m interested in doing right now.”

In an interview with Variety, director Chris Columbus said that he’d like to bring the original trio of Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, and Radcliffe back for a Harry Potter And The Cursed Child adaptation. This year, HBO Max’s Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts featured a partial return of the three actors to the magical boarding school, as they read from J.K. Rowling’s latest story.

Radcliffe has been starring in the new TBS comedy series Miracle Workers since 2018 and will next be seen in the romantic comedy The Lost City.
