BET’s ‘Being Mary Jane’ Picked Up for a Second Season

BET has ordered a second season of its first original scripted drama series, Being Mary Jane.

The finale, which was two back-to-back hours from 9 to 11PM averaged 2.6 million viewers in the first hour and 3.2 million in the second.

The season finale event became the series best performing episode. ‘Being Mary Jane’ is the No. 1 new original scripted series on cable TV to date among the key demographics of 18 to 49 adults and women. Production is scheduled to begin this spring and will most likely film in Atlanta, Georgia.

Gabrielle Union will be met by cast members Richard Roundtree, Margaret Avery, Richard Brooks, Lisa Vidal, Raven Goodwin, B.J. Britt, Aaron Spears, Latarsha Rose and Stephen Bishop. 

Being Mary Jane is created and executive produced by Girlfriends creator Mara Brock Akil,  and  executive produced and directed by Salim Akil.
