Why We Won’t See ‘Alien’ Reboot Until 2018

Date:

The new Alien movie may not be released for another 3 to 5 years.

Earlier this year, ‘District 9’ director Neill Blomkamp started a bunch of rumors when he posted concept art for a hypothetical new Alien movie. Apparently, Blomkamp didn’t have any deal with Fox when he created the art, but that very quickly changed, and a Blomkamp-directed Alien 5 was in development. Then, ‘Chappie’ happened. Blomkamp’s latest movie was a major box office disaster and had several critics running towards the exit. Since then, reports of a new ‘Alien 5’ movie quickly disappeared and reports suggested that the movie was stuck in development hell.

According to Bloody Disgusting, who have an inside source on the new ‘Alien 5’ movie, revealed that the only thing that is holding ‘Alien 5’ back is Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus 2’.

Alien 5 is still very much in the works, as Fox remains hot on the idea. Blomkamp continues to work on the script (only an outline existed previously) and refine the tale he is telling. Ridley Scott is still producing, but has insisted on Prometheus 2 being made first.”

Alien 5 may also be delayed due to Sigourney Weaver’s involvement in the new Avatar sequels which have recently been pushed back to 2018 and 2020.

However, as it looks now, ‘Prometheus 2’ will film in early 2016 and hit theaters by 2017. Which will allow for Niel Blomkamp to film in 2017 for a 2018 release date. But, that all depends on the success of ‘Prometheus 2’.

‘Prometheus’ did extremely well in the box office. It grossed over $403 million worldwide. Even critics praised both the film’s visual aesthetic design and the acting, most notably Fassbender’s performance as the android David.

However, the plot behind ‘Promtheus’ drew a mixed response from critics. Many people criticized plot elements that remained unresolved or were too predictable.

Until ‘Prometheus 2’ hits theaters all we can do is sit back and wait.
