Albuquerque Plans to Get Two Statues of ‘Breaking Bad’s Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.
The company is attempting to boost tourism in New Mexico city by highlighting it as a tourist destination.

In celebration of Breaking Bad’s colossal success, the city of Albuquerque is building monuments to the series’ two key characters, Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). The statues were created by Vince Gilligan, the show’s creator, and are now being given to the city’s government as a gift in response to his wish to “give something back” to the location where the series was filmed.
“Over the course of 15 years, two TV shows and one movie, Albuquerque has been wonderful to us,” Gilligan hopes the statues will be able to help the city attract more visitors.
Despite his good intentions, some residents have slammed the glamorization of the two drug dealers, particularly in light of Albuquerque’s ongoing battle with drugs. “They’re erecting statues in honor of characters who were meth dealers, addicts, and murderers in a city known for rampant meth addiction and drug problems,” one commenter wrote on Twitter. At the same time, another saw the humor in the situation, saying that despite Cranston and Paul’s “amazing performances,” it was “still amusing to see such beloved, um, meth makers, get this tribute.”
The statues of Walter and Jesse will be unveiled on July 29 at the city’s convention center, with Mayor Tim Keller, Gilligan, executive producer Peter Gould, Cranston, and Paul themselves attending the ceremony.
