Cincinnati’s Film Industry is Ready to Compete with Hollywood

Date:

The film industry in Cincinnati eagerly wants to compete with Hollywood.

Near Los Angeles is Hollywood, which is known for films of course. But Cincinnati is fast gaining a reputation for the same. The stars are increasingly leaving Tinseltown for Queen City. In the previous eight years, twenty productions have been filmed in the Tri-State area. D Lynn Meyers, Artistic Director Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati has met many of these celebrities.

“Todd Haynes, one of the most favorite people I’ve ever worked for in my entire life, who directed the beautiful beautiful ‘Carol’ and ‘Dark Waters’, Don Cheadle when he came to do Miles Ahead, and we needed to find musicians and real musicians who could play along to music from Miles Davis. People like Cate Blanchett, who would walk you know, walk with her kids up to getting Taste of Belgium waffles in OTR, and she would see Officer Nick and she would see all these great faces. And so suddenly all these faces are in the movie.,” Meyers said in an interview.

Meyers also belongs to the Casting Society of America. As a result, she understands not only that the celebrities will be visiting Cincinnati, but also that Cincinnati has its fair share of homegrown performers.

“Word out of town about how great our performers are, I think, is stronger than our word in town. So I guarantee you I have done more casting work, more like in Cincinnati, than if I’d stayed in LA,” said Meyers. “There’s no way I would have worked this much, or my associate Becca Shaw, we would have never worked this much in L.A., making it our full-time goal as we have here in Cincinnati with this job I love at ETC and it’s incredible to give actors the shot on stage and give them the shot on a camera with film. And suddenly they’ve cobbled together this extraordinary life in a city that I love and a city that they love.”

Whether you’re heading east or west to Cincinnati, it’s always the correct path.
