Oscar Nominations 2016: Entire List of Nominations

Date:

Here is the full list of Oscar Nominations for The Academy Awards 2016.

The Revenant and Mad Max: Fury Road were among the movies praised and honored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, picking up Oscar nominations for best picture and best director.

There will be six best picture nominees to join them including Bridge of Spies, Spotlight, The Big Short, Brooklyn, Room and Matt Damon’s The Martian.

However, it is important to point out that box office hit movie Straight Outta Compton was not featured and was cut by award judges.

The Revenant, a story about revenge directed by Alejandro G. Iñarritu, which is set in the 1800s, garnered 12 nominations in total that is the most of any film.

Leonardo DiCaprio was honored for his lead acting and Tom Hardy for his supporting role. The movie was also nominated for its cinematography, sound editing and sound mixing.

The best directing category will be led by Alejandro G. Iñarritu and Geroge Miller, the director of Mad Max: Fury Road, with Tom McCarthy for Spotlight, Adam McKay for The Big Short and Lenny Abrahmason for Room. One of the biggest surprises was Ridley Scott, the director of The Martian.

It is important to point out that Oscar voters put together an “all-white field” of acting nominees. Which is expected to hurt ratings once again. In fact, the audience for last year’s ceremony dropped 15 percent, to around 36.6 million viewers, from 43 million in 2014, which caused new producers to hire Chris Rock to host.

ABC will broadcast the Oscars on February 28.
