Open Casting Call for Lou Zamperini Directed by Angelina Jolie

Date:

Casting Director Francine Maisler, is holding an online open call to find an actor for the lead in the new film Unbroken, directed by Angelina Jolie. The role being cast is “Louis Zamperini,” an Olympian who later became an Army Air Corps lieutenant, and spent 25 months in Japanese captivity during World War II.

The multi-talented Angelina Jolie is at it again with the upcoming motion picture Louis Zamperini.

Recently, The Hollywood Reporter remarked that “Ethan and Joel Coen are teaming up with Angelina Jolie to tell the story of World War II hero Lou Zamperini.” Among being the top screenwriters in town, The Coens have been nominated five times for Academy Awards in the writing category. They won Academy Awards for No Country for Old Men and Fargo. The brothers usually direct and produce projects that they write, but on rare cases it looks as though they make some exceptions.

Universal originally picked up the rights to make this motion picture in January 2011 and it was scheduled for Francis Lawrence to direct. However, when Angelina Jolie decided she would be the director this film, she quickly joined in December and since then she has spent weeks looking for top of the light writers to tackle the project, and THR reports that she is extremely choosy.

Now she is working on finding the lead character for her upcoming motion picture.

The casting director is looking for an actor age 19-26, “capable of extreme emotional range and depth . . . with a lean, athletic, ‘runners’ build or someone who is willing to change their physicality for the role.

LOUIS ZAMPERINI:

19-26; Louis Zamperini’s life is a testament to the resilience of the human mind, body and spirit. He is the son of Italian immigrant parents and exudes a 1940’s charm.  The filmmakers are looking for someone capable of extreme emotional range and depth. We are seeking someone with a lean, athletic, “runners” build or someone who is willing to change their physicality for the role. Louis was a brawling, incorrigible delinquent as a kid. As a teen, he channeled his rebellion into running which led him to the 1936 Olympics. Zamperini’s story is one of miraculous survival and astounding endurance. As an Army Air Corps lieutenant, he crashed into the expanse of the Pacific where he spent 47 days on a makeshift raft lost at sea, battling starvation and evading attack under enemy aircraft. Zamperini was ultimately captured by the Japanese, where his ingenuity, fortitude and hope enabled him to endure 25 months of intense physical torture and psychological abuse. Maintaining his tenacity and humor, Louis Zamperini was able to survive against all odds proving him to be an unbreakable man.

If you or someone you know fits that description and is interested in auditioning for this role, you must submit a self-taped audition of the improv detailed in the submission instructions.
